View Full Version : One Feather -
My female FINALLY grew in two of her flight feathers, one on each wing [her first two since I’ve had her] – but last night she flew [well, dive bombed] to the floor and one of the feathers stuck out, like it was twisted – I picked her up and had her flap her wings to put it back into place – it seemed to fall back in place but then she flew off their play stand onto the counter and it completely fell out  so now she has only one :(

Oh, sad! Poor little girl! My hubby and I disagreed about whether or not to have Bitsy flighted. I prevailed, and Bitsy is SO CUTE flying around. Sometimes he seems to think he needs exercise (more than at other times), so he will fly in circles through the family room and kitchen. It's awfully cute. Hope the Mrs. gets more feather soon --
Jan – I’m so glad you won out :) – they love to fly and are so much fun to watch doing it, aren’t they ;)
The sad thing is when my male takes off my female’s instinct is to follow and that’s when she ends up in her predicaments  although, they usually work to my advantage – as now she is willing to step up onto my finger for a ride back to her perch :D
Tell Bitsy he’s lucky to have all his flight feathers intact :)

Hey stranger! Just checking in for a progress report. Yes that'll happen. Make sure she's getting her calcium. Toby broke two at once, then one more during the regrowth between Sept and December. BUT they all came in by January, more or less. That was between age 3 months and 6 months.
So when you see a regrowing one try and keep her a bit subdued/not near walls or on cage tops.... for the 4 or so days, that's about how long each one takes. And I increased the protein. I think that's really what helped!
Not too long now to go :D
OMG - Cindy, I saw your name and it took me a few seconds for it to register  – What a nice surprise to see your post – I hope you stick around here ;)
When I was telling people on here about you helping me with the introductions of the Peepers I noticed you were registered but not active – I believe I referred to you as ‘the very nice lady from another forum’ :p
As you can see things couldn’t be better between Rupert & Penny, I don’t think the match could have been better if they had picked each other out of a flock of birds. IMO they are truly a pair and just adore each other.
I’m glad this whole feather thing yesterday wasn’t a blood feather issue – PHEW - but nonetheless I was disappointed, as I’ve been waiting for her flight feathers to grow in – but I’m sure she will get there eventually.
How are things with Piper and Toby?

Thank you Pado. Yep I was sure they would be perfect. You did everything possible to make it so, too. Scary at first, but so worth it, right?
Well Piper and Toby are great. In fact, Toby would like you to know things are better than great... ever since he figured out (sorta) how to BREED PIPER!
Twice now I've walked in on them! What a shock. It's HER, the seductress. She's about 14 months and he's only about 10. Imagine my surprise seeing him balancing on ONE LEG LOL. And Pip all hunched down all serious-like. OMG
The first time was coitus interruptus (by ME) but the second time his tail feathers were PERFECTLY STRAIGHT UP pointing to the ceiling. OMG I couldnt even get their attention. So I rushed in with food LOL. It didnt work!
I'm hoping nothing comes of it but if she lays I'll freeze the eggs till she loses interest. If that happens I just hope she has an easy time of it.
Other than that, nothings new :D
Mr Rupert Peepers is going to LOVE 2008!

BTW both breeding episodes (that I know of) were after less than the usual 12 hours of sleep AND with eating alot of sprouts. Needless to say I've meanly cut back on sprouts drastically!
What kind of sprouts were they eating?
