molting or allergies?

kirby is about 3-4 mos old and lately he has been preening like crazy. i've seen a few pin feathers on his head and he seems to have a lot of that downy type feather by his tummy, but i don't see any feathers on the bottom of his cage. i don't know if it's just the start of a molt or if he's really itchy. any ideas?

Parrotlets preen and pick all the time. I think it is just their nature. A few people here have said their birds are going through a molt right now. I find down all over the house. Once in a while I a find a large feather. I doubt it is an allergy but you could take him to a vet and check it out.
