I'm very sure many of you have your own techniques and sprayers, but now that I have a molting birdie-pie who doesn't particularly like it when mom dunks him into water for a bath ;), I've gone mister myself. I've seen some specifically bird-designated misting devices out there from around $4 to even $15 (!!) and so just wanted to share that I found a fantastic travel mister (http://www.containerstore.com/shop/travel/bottlesMedication?productId=10024898) at the Container Store that does the job perfectly. It produces a fine, even, and gentle mist, and at 3 oz., it's small enough to be convenient but large enough to hold a good amount of water to spray down birdie. ;)

Undoubtedly this will sound like so much common sense, but since I was actually considering shelling out the $15 for the "specialized" sprayer , I thought I'd post about it - so happy I went the 99 cent route instead! ;)

Thanks for the mister tip. Is there some way to indroduce misting so that birds will enjoy it? Both my cockatiel and my Parrotlet absolutley hate it. I have tried very gentley mistling upwards and letting a gnetle mist rains down on them but no matter how i do it they both FREAK and practically hurt themselves trying to get away.

Mine does not like to be misted either...and when I take him in the shower with me he just sits there and looks like a miserable drowned rat...lol... a rat with wet feathers! He will however bath himself when he feels the need. Ussually in his clean and just refilled with ice cold filtered water from the fridge...he seems to prefer it ice cold. If I give him warm water he ignores it. I am thinking of letting take the polar bear plunge in the lake on New Years:eek:

Oops, so sorry, meant to reply ages ago!

My little guy doesn't take to well too misting or bathing either despite my best efforts - and he also loves the icy plunge in the water dish approach to bathing! For all his love of pre-bedtime snuggling while warmly ensconced in the hood of our (no longer my!) "cuddle jacket," he certainly loves his frigid water! Wish I could say the same when my building's boiler breaks down in the middle of winter!

i mist in to the air above them and let it fall down on them on as fine a mist as i can get it works with all the parrots and reptiles alike
