I have been reading and reading. I am decided on the HQ Flight cage. My question is is this okay for a baby? I should be getting him when he is about 10 weeks old. At this age should he be kept in a smaller cage for a while? And if so, what size? Thanks for your help.

Congratulations on your new baby on the way! How exciting. The HQ flight cage is an awesome cage for a plet. He will love it! It is always a good idea to start out with a smaller cage when you bring home a new baby, for a couple of reasons. One is, for safety. Sometimes babies are still quite clumsy, and not used to climbing around, so they can fall and hurt themselves in a large, tall cage. Second reason is, when the baby is first learning to step up onto your finger, and come out of the cage on your finger, it is much easier to train him to do this from a smaller cage, than a really big one. Not as much space for him to run and hide in! LOL So yes, a smaller cage is a great idea, for a few weeks, until you are sure he is steady and an expert climber/percher, and until your relationship is developing and he will step up nicely for you. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks Judi,

I grew up with parrots in my family, but I was too young to handle the care part. This is a whole new learning curve for me. I have kept frogs for over 13 years, and with frogs you always start with a smaller tank. :)

I will def buy a smaller cage at first and then use it later for sleep. I'm getting more and more excited as I go. :D I can't wait to meet this little guy/girl. They were hatched on 11/30/09 so I have not gotten to see pics yet. But the breeder is going to pull them from the nest in about 2-3 weeks and I'll get pics then or since it's in town, I plan to go by and bond early on. I'm so excited I'm antsy. :D Thanks again.
