This morning, Navi was sitting all fluffed at the bottom of the cage, and let me cuddle her more than usual. I brought her to the vet immediately, and it turns out she probably has a respiratory infection. She's had one dose of antibiotic since we brought her home, at around 6:30. I can only wait till morning now. I'm scared she won't make it through the night... I love her a lot!
I hope I caught it early enough.

Here's an update:
She's had her third dose by now, and she seems to be about back to her usual self. I'm not going to relax yet, since she needs to take it for about two weeks.
In the meantime, I've become quite sick! I guess I didn't realize it.

Sara,

You've done the best thing you can for her by taking her to a vet right away. Keep checking on her all though the night to ensure she's g oing to be ok. If she's responding to the meds after three doses, chances are she's going to be fine . I would keep watching her closely.

Give us an update tomorrow

Thanks for the support, everyone.
Navi is doing much better on her antibiotics. We think she will make a full recovery. She is back to biting and yelling her head off.
Phew.

Sooo happy to hear your little "fuzzbutt" (love that, by the way! - I think parrotlets just have the cutest little bums! ;)) is well on her way back to being a 100%+, Sara!!! :) :) :)

And just as an aside, I'm so grateful to you for posting throughout and keeping us all up to date! My little man falling fatally ill is my absolute worst fear (as I'm sure it is for so many others here too!) and sometimes when you read stories about those poor people whose birdies have passed on due to sickness, you start to get a little paranoid that anything disrupting the equilibrium of their delicacy is life-ending. Of course, that paranoia does engender a hyper-diligence over them that can ultimately be life-saving and -prolonging, but your story does help me feel quite a bit better knowing that all is not always lost during a moment of crisis with proper and immediate action!

And on that note, thanks to all of you here who contribute so much information, advice, and support towards our little guys' health and longevity! As I've said before, Brisbane's quality of life wouldn't be anywhere near what it is without it!

:)

I agree. When she was sick, I read tons of posts on different forums about birdies that had the same symptoms as Navi. About 80% of them seemed to end badly. It made me really paranoid. Although I'm really glad I took her to the vet right away, it would have been nice to read about more birds that recovered. That way I wouldn't have been so certain that she was going to die.

Now she's doing acrobatics for me and running back and forth in front of her cage door, looks like it's almost bedtime for birdy

So glad to hear you got her to the vet quickly, and that she's doing so much better with the medication. It's said that once birds show they are sick, they're really sick, so the faster treatment begins the better.
