I am new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Libby and currently have 2 parrotlets, 2 cats and a coral tank (my boyfriends).
Our feathered babies are both pacific green p'lets, 1 female - Molly and 1 male - Jocko.
I am a teacher but before that was fortunate to work with endangered birds in Hawaii then moved to florida to work at an avian rehab facility working with injured birds. Molly came in to the rehab facility, many times people drop off parrots they don't want anymore, and the moment I saw her I knew she was coming home with me. That was almost 3 years ago. We got Jocko about 6 months ago, we were hoping that he would be a companion for Molly, but she hates him. She does not want anything around that will compete for my attention and affection. If anybody has any suggestions on how I can maybe get her to tolerate him that would be great. Oh and he wants to be around her, he follows her everywhere. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome Libby, I have posted about my little p'let Bitsey Jo killing her mate alot of times on the forum. It happened before I rescued her.She is the sweetest/bossiest girl. My great friend and now I'm too scared to try her a new mate. I'm afraid she will be a habitual offender. It was supreme ignorance on the part of her pervious owner and it didn't have to happen. I don't blame B'Jo, it's nature but I do blame her owner. Ignorance.

Were they both hand reared? That is usually what causes this problem. They falslely imprint on humans. It is very possible and likely that they eventually will take to one another, but it will take time. And you do have to be careful with these little buggers!!
What does Molly do when Jocko tries to be with her? What is their housing situation (cage types, dimensions) what sort of neutral areas can be provided?
Hey Libby! Welcome to the site :) .
Hi Libby - welcome to the site. When you answer Andrea's questions I'm sure she will be able to give you some more insite on how to proceed.
As Memmey states - you need to be careful with these guys - they need the right conditions to be set up together.
Looking forward to hearing more.

They have very similar cages the dimensions are 18 width x 16 depth x 32 height. Their cages are about 12 inches apart. When they are out Molly stays with me, Jocko flys around the room, he goes to both cages (his and hers), he has a bird tree and sometimes if Molly is on me Jocko will fly over onto my other shoulder. When Jocko is on my shoulder Molly will tolerate him for a minute or two, then she will run toward him with her mouth open which will scare him away.
There are times (not everytime by any means, many times one will hang out on the others cage while the other is inside with no fighting) if he goes to her cage or vice versa and they will seem to go at it a little. This is mostly noise, their mouths are open but there does seems to be any real biting. Molly does the same thing she does to Jocko with my boyfriend, sometimes if he is sitting on the other end of the couch she will jump off my shoulder and run across the back of the couch to bite him.
Molly was a rescue so I don't know if she was hand reared, I do have suspisions that she was abused in her last family. Jocko was supposed to be hand reared but I think the breeders idea of hand rearing and my idea are different.
Hope that helps
Hi Libby,
Welcome aboard! Your birds seem to have an interesting dynamic. Mine are very different, with their own special 'issues'.
i hope you find this site useful and are willing to contribute your experiences as well.
