This was a mix I use for my tortoises...would it hurt to sprinkle it on mash?

barley grass powder: Barley grass contains eighteen amino acids, including the eight essential ones—that is, the amino acids that we must get from our diet. The body cannot produce them itself. MORE (http://www.carolinapetsupply.com/barley_grass.html)

Roselle powder (Hibiscus): Ground dried hibiscus flowers. This is a course powder...not whole chunks Sprinkle a small amount over food a few times a week. Great source of calcium !! MORE (http://www.carolinapetsupply.com/hibiscus.htm)

powdered orchard/Timothy grass hay: An excellent source of fiber MORE (http://russiantortoise.org/hay.htm)

dandelion leaf powder: An excellent source of vitamin A, D, calcium and magnesium. It is also an excellent source of essential fatty acids.
plantain leaf powder: another common weed used by many for tortoises. Its high in calcium vitamin A (10,000IU/100g) and vitamin D

calendula petal powder: Calendula flowers are high in Vitamins A & C. They also are known to boost immunity

chickweed powder: also high in calcium, vitamin A and vitamin C.

rose petal powder: great source of calcium, vitamins A, B complex, C, D, E, and iron. Also high in bioflavonoids

rose hip powder: rich in vitamin C

Professional Grade Probiotics: with 16 strains of microencapsulated (so more survive the digestive process and end up in the intestines where they are needed) beneficial bacteria. I'd say no for my pets. They don't eat that stuff in nature why would you feed it to them in captivity? My opinion is to stick to good wholesome fresh foods.

Not as food...but its a powder...that sprinkles on food. It has good benefits to reptiles...and birds are a link. Just wondered if anything in it would harm them? Its kind of like sprinkling spirilina powder on food.

In very teeny amounts, a small pinch, it would be okay. I would not sprinkle a larger amount over the food, more is not better.

I use either organic powdered alfalfa leaf, barley or wheat grass, as a daily supplement in the morning, plus a few grains of kelp (for iodine), no more.

I don't add supplements. I try to get it to them by a very varied diet. :) Like Reta said, a little should be ok.

Reta -- where do you get the kelp grains? :)

It is just something I have here for my tortoise and have lots of it ...so I will sprinkle now and then. I am feeding a love bird zoo seed mix, roudybush Pellet, birdie bread and mash. Along with veggies and fruit! So I think I am covering the basis now.

I've heard of different powders, like pollen and spirulina, but not the others you talk about. Oh, and the wheat grass. I wasn't sure about that either. Thanks Chapala!

i also keep a number of reptiles the power wont do any harm but they would only need a tiny amount less than a quater teaspoon about once a week i think you could give them the same benefits with a well balanced diet with added fruit and veg as fresh as possible if you have acess to a garden you could grow them somr fresh wholesome things in your own yard
