:p Guess what I THINK I found? EARS!

Are they ears? They are tiny little 'holes' on either side of the head, just behind the eyes. (Sort of where one would think ears go :) )

I was giving Seamus scritches and that's how I found them.

Now I know where to direct the DON'T BITE and STEP UP!:D

Aren't bird ears a little freaky? It always weirds me out when I see them. Holes in the head...

I have to agree! Sometimes when I look at my little guy, I think, you might have descended from dinosaurs! (And might explain those ostensibly T-rex-inspired bites from time to time...) Birds are really quite an odd lot - warm-blooded like mammals, but egg-laying like cold-blooded reptiles...and they share similar ear structures with the many of the latter! They seem to have an interesting link to other animal orders.

A bit relatedly, I happened upon some parrotlet anatomy illustrations (http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/finland/1122/parrotlets/panatomy.html) I found helpful. So much packed into these little guys! Makes you realize why they can be so delicate - such numerous tiny little bones (and hollow ones (http://www.historycooperative.org/journals/sia/32.2/images/guise_fig02b.jpg) at that!)...

and on larger parrots, those ear holes can be pretty darn big!

....big birds and wet willies probably don't mix well even if they have big gapping ears. LOL :p:p Kinda off the wall, but respect me for my uncanny thoughts while reading posts! :D:D:p
