P.M. spams

A new method of spamming on this site seems to have popped up. If any of you receive p.m. spams, please report it to one of us mods, Jo Anne or me, so that we can ban the person doing it. Normally, they post their spam message, so we can see it, delete it, and ban them as members. Apparently they are trying to work around the mods by p.m.ing their spam.

Please let us know so we can keep spam off our site as much as possible,

We had similar problem on the AnAG forum and filter out these folks by disabling their ability to send PMs, and their posts have to be approved by a mod or admin. In the event they post 3 "approved" posts, these restrictions are lifted. If, however, they start posting with outside links that are commercial in nature and not related to a question posted by another member, then they are again restricted from posting. We do ban obvious spammers and it is an ongoing battle. :(

I don't know if this site would enable us to automatically place any new members on moderation or not. I'll check with the administrator, Dave. On Yahoo forums where I'm a moderator, it can be and is done, but this forum has a completely different set up.
