Bought a new cage in anticipation of the arrival of my new baby boys. I was torn between the HQ Flight and a Large playtop of the same interior volume. I ended choosing the playtop and wow, all i can say is i am very impressed with the quality and function of the cage. I steered away from the HQ because it does't have a seed catcher/deflector at the bottom and the cage will generally be on carpet. The deflector on the playtop catchs about 99.9% of everything that falls from feeding and chewing, so theres no daily mess on the floor. It has a removable grate and two removable waste catch trays, one on the bottom and one at the top for the playtop. The overall construction was much better than i had anticipated and so is the function of the design. There are 3 food doors and it came with 5 stainless steel food/water cups, i have to admit the cups are large for parrotlets, but they don't seem to mind.
They have all kinds of room inside as they fly back and forth and top to bottom all day.

Just a suggestion: Get a UV light (a clip-on lamp with a spiral florescent full-spectrum bulb) for the cage. It really helps if you have it on a timer too. :)

thanks for the sugestion, I have one for my other bird as his species is prone to ricketts. Any suggestions on what type brand of bulb would be good?
We have a wild bird that lost is wing to a cat, and after 5-6 months indoors started stargazing, twitching and having seizures. After some online searches the light when on and I bought an inexpensive full spectrum "incandesant" Gro-bulb. After 2 days he started improving and by the end of a week he was back to normal! Thinking that I better get a "high end" lighting system for him I went out and bought a Zoo-Med avain LAMP and their expensive Avian CFL bulb. After about a week and 1/2 of having the expensive CFL on he started twitching and stargazing again, so I turned it off and put the inexpensive incandesant Gro-blub over him again and low and behold he got better within 2-3 days!
Long story short: The expensive lamp and bulb are going back, it MUST be the wrong lighting spectrum, for him anyways.

Have you posted this story on the Zoo-Med thread that was posted recently? I believe that poster was looking for anecdotal evidence about the efficacy of that brand and she might want to see your comment.

I have Featherbright and I'm happy about it. My vet told me that's what she uses for her birds at home and that sold me right there.
Very nice cage!

wow, that's the same cage we have, only ours is a little smaller...yours is taller. :) we, too, have a clamp light on top of ours, though we didn't really know they made special birdie bulbs...the breeder just told us to get a full spectrum light.
