HI I am contemplating buying a HQ cage for my new baby, Kirby. I have a Quaker named Gabby. Gabby knows how to slide open the doors to my parakeet cage and I was wondering if the HQ has those types of doors on them? Gabby and the parakeets have to be kept in separate rooms because she will get in their cage and well not be very nice (it happened one time and it was not pretty). I would just be worried that she would try to attack Kirby if the cage doors were able to slide up and down. I really like the idea of a HQ cage and hope my husband doesn't get too upset by how BIG it is. I really was wanting a smaller cage but figure that I would just upgrade later on so should just go ahead and buy it now. If I really like it, I may buy one for Gabby.

My HQ has latches on the front similar to window frame latches...as you push the lever down a bar slides into the other part of the latch and secures it. I do not see how a bird could open it. The side of the cage have breeder doors that you may have to put a small clip on as they are just held in place by a bend in the wire that snaps into place and I can see a smart bird opening it. Where are you getting your HQ from? I just bought 2 of them from americas-pet-store.com and got them for $135.00 shipping included. I got one for my p'let and 1 for my budgie. I also was concerned when the 1st one came my hubby would not like how massive this cage is...but he loved it so much he ordered one for his budgie...that's why we have 2....lol

I am too ordering from America's pet store!! I have been looking at other cages and just haven't found any that are that compare for that price-- Hopefully he won't be too crabby about it-- he doesn't really care for my birds at all : ( He is a dog only person and even then he isn't a super big dog lover. He tolerates my love for animals but gets sort of grouchy about big cages and new pets--lol Too BAD!!

Their service was really good to. The cages both arrived 6 days after I ordered them and when I ordered the second one a man from the store called me on the phone about 5 mins later to tell me that the color ( blue ) that I ordered was not in stock from HQ till mid Oct. He said I could wait and then have it shipped( me wait?? Yeah right..ok...sure....NOT) or pick a different color...I chose the green. They were super nice about it.

Mine have not figured them out either from the inside or the outside of the HQ! Jinx got the hang of sliding doors up and down on my smaller cage that had those doors :)

You're a good bird owner for buying the HQ. There's no such thing as "too big" when it comes to birds. Most people buy a cage that is WAY too small.

When I got Kiwi, I bought the "recommended" size 18x18 -- a very nice Kings cage, but WAY too small for her.

I now have THREE HQ flight cages, one for each P'let -- all in Platinum (light gray). I love them, and more importantly, the birds are very happy in their "safe havens".

We zip tied (those plastic ties that "zip" and lock tight) all the little breeder doors -- they could definitely be opened by P'let beaks! We also used heavy duty zip ties and tied the cage to the stand on all four corners. Even though the cage is heavy, we wanted to be certain it wouldn't slide off the stand when being moved.

It's a great cage -- I'd buy them again in a heartbeat!
