Sprout is eating some fresh foods but does not like his harrisons pellets. i tried grinding them smaller but he still prefers his parrotlet seeds, of course he really only likes the sunflower and safflower seeds. i tried making a mash with cooked lentils, kale, corn, peas a few seeds and he won't even touch it. i am worrying that he will starve . got any suggestions?:(

Try mixing a few of his seeds into the mash..he will have to pick thru ( and hopefully taste and ingest ) the mash to get the seeds.

Make mash with sprouted millet as a grain and SPICY vegetables (jalapeno, ginger.) I also throw some sprouted seed in my mash but now Delphi will eat either mash I offer, the millet one or the regular one.

Try eating some Pellets in front of him. I do it. They taste good and are good for you.;) Make yummy sounds also.

I have started giving seed absolutely last in the day if it's not in a forage toy. Now he eats even more mash and pellet.

Just keep trying! It takes time. It took my 'tiel 3 YEARS before she started eating her pellets... and only fresh foods if I eat them first and try to make them sound crunchy!

When I brought Oliver home, he wouldn't eat anything but millet, and then millet and seeds. So after a week of letting him get acclimated, I started giving him only Roudybush crumbles and the pellets, but with a tiny bit (a fingertip's worth) of seeds mixed in so he knew they were all food, and he started eating the pellets and crumbles. However, he wasn't touching his cooked food, so a couple of days ago, when I cleaned his cage and changed all of his toys and perches out, I sprinkled a couple of seeds on top of his cooked food, and since then, he loves his cooked food. It flings so much better than seeds!
