First Molt

Hello all,
Ms. Ellie is finally going through her first molt. We wondered if there was anything special we needed to do for her during this time? Also, how long should this last?

Gee I think Archies 1st molt started around 6-7 months old and lasted about 1 month or so.

yup, she's about 5-6 months :)

Many say their birds get very moody during the molt but my bird didn't hopefully yours will be ok to...good luck.

Oliver is going through is and he doesnt like to be touched and he's pretty crabby. I have tried to mist him but he hates that. I generally just leave him alone, let him do his thing. He's handled it pretty good so far - hopefully its over soon, he looks like a little pincushion!!

You can mist once a week or so, in the morning and out of a draft. Don't over do the misting and bathing. Let him have a great place to bathe if he feels like it. Softens the pinnies.

They can get a bit cranky, it is uncomfortable, but just be patient.
