Chipper has overpreened..... I took her to the vet and a bloodtest and she has high cholesterol. Exrays show her liver is fine. It was caught early.

She has a great diet. Genes can many reason's can cause overpreening, plucking etc.

Her seeds are at a minumum, but he told me to slowly cut that down. He ordered Roudybush pellets, rice, for this problem. I told him she will not eat pellets, but I do cook with them. Maybe she will eat them that way.

So, she has a gray bathrobe and is fine with it. Hubby and I are not happy, but as long as she will get better that is ok. She will probably grow her feathers back IF she doesn't decide she LIKES this look, the vet said.

She will get her blood tested in a couple of months again.

Sally -

Hope she lets her feathers grow back soon -- this may be a one time thing, so your membership in the Pluckers Club will only be temporary!

Kiwi still has her gray downy bathrobe and seems perfectly happy with it. It will be a year on July 31st since this started quite suddenly. As you know, I have tried EVERYTHING, but she still plucks out the new greens as soon as they start to unfurl. I think it's a habit now, like fingernail biting. She never mutilates her skin and she can fly beautifully; I'm thankful for that. Otherwise, she's a happy, healthy, active bird. Kermit seems to love her look and does the wiggle-neck thing whenever he's near her when they're out for playtime!

Keep us posted on her progress!

Membership in the pluckers' club is one we don't like to see growing! Hope Chipper has second thoughts about removing those beautiful green feathers!

Re the diet, if you overnight soak or better yet sprout a grain mix, the fat content is lessened so it's healthier for them. Parrotlets seem to thrive on a diet with plenty of fresh, raw vegetables and sprouts, a little fresh fruit, with both vegetables and fruits chosen from the more nutritious varieties.

I'm sorry Sally, I know how hard this is.

Herbie only plucked the once, with one little spot of a relapse 2 months later, but you never stop worrying about it. I'm crossing my fingers for little Chipper.

Aw, sorry little Chipper started plucking. Hopefully, it is a passing fad.
