Hello, My 2 Parrotlets are breeding and I expect an egg any minute.
My question... what colors might I expect?
Plato is Green Split to blue (male)
Mya is Blue.

I have bred cockatiels in the past, but this is the first time with Parrotlets.
Thanks,
Angel

Andrea will know, maybe she will post later.

Based on the genetics, I would suspect 50% blue and 50% split (green).

This is my one and only experience and obviously clutches and pairs vary, but my p'let came from a blue female and green split blue male and they had 6 green splits and one yellow. My breeder said that she very rarely gets blues and the yellow had never happened before, so I'd ignore that one. But long story short, hers have 9 times out of 10 given green splits and the tenth time giving a blue.

My green split to blue and visual blue pair has produced about 75% visual blue offspring, the rest being green split to blue.

Because of this I could not see the rationale behind pricing the blues higher, b/c the greens would find homes and the blues took forever. So we price all of our parrotlets from our breeders the same - greens, blues, yellows, splits. I want them all to find a good home with equal chances.

My hats off to you Andrea – that’s probably one of the most conscientious [and nice] things I’ve heard from someone selling birds or any animal.

I'm sure at one time they were rare and more difficult to breed and given that, its common knowledge and accepted that you can get more money for the mutations and I’ve only seen them advertised for a higher price.

Your statement shows you are a person of character.

[I wish there was a 'Smilie' tipping their hat :) ]
