Is it okay to kind of scratch off the tips of feathers when the feather is breaking through? Im pretty sure its fine, just making sure.

I just leave Baby's alone and give her lots of baths. Baths seem to help. I take a small spray bottle and mist her , but while doing this I make it seem as if it's something fun we're doing.

I do it all the time. Jinx lets me know when it hurts (usually it's the brand new ones that hurt more).

Yes, they do appreciate help with the pin feathers on the head when they are no longer tender and the blood has receded. If you try it too early, they sure will let you know! Mates or buddies preen each other's heads, and a single pet has no way to take care of the feathers on the head by themselves.

Darcy lets me help with his. I don't think he likes the process, but it makes him feel better after! If I hit a sensitive one, he lets me know quick with a nip or squawk.

I'm glad I read this thread. Gilligan is molting and I was able to scratch on his head and get rid of some of the old white pins. I hope I have given him relief. It's funny, he will not let me touch him unless I aproach him with a toy in the hand. I have to begin scratching with the toy and then I can use my fingers after getting started with the toy. Once I start using my fingers, I guess it feels so good he doesn't withdraw, even when he knows I have switched to my fingers!
We are still working on the millet training thing. The little booger will usually get onto my hand when I have the millet, but only then. He is such a busy body and playful and curious and he just loves his cage top and play gym and toys more then me I guess! If he happens to fly from the cage he will get up on my finger though, no problem, just not from the cage!

I do Kiwi's also but you have to watch so you don't get the tender ones. I've done that by accident a few times and now Kiwi's more hesitant.
