I had this old screen door in the shed for years and so I decided to make use of it. It measures 82tx36wx18d. I just finished it last week and moved everybody in. I have finches in it and they LOVE IT!! Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Looks great, better than a cage!
Is that a live Wandering Jew plant or foliage from a plant? If so, it is considered to be a dermal irritant, fairly mild in comparison with some other plants, but I probably wouldn't put any in with my birds. That might be artificial foliage, can't tell from the photo.

Hi tstcpc - everyone else is right, it's amazing! Is there any way you could expand on how you managed to make such a beautiful piece of furniture from an old door? I'd love to do something similar if only I knew how!

Thank you all for your kind remarks. I will try to explain what I did. I am no carpenter but did do this all on my own. I am pretty proud of it since I'm an "old lady" of 52 years.
Started with a old 36" x 82" screen which I removed old screen from.
Took accurate measurements of door and built frame from 1x4's and 1x2's in just untreated pine.
The sides are 1/2" plywood which I cut door openings on each side with a jug saw, one measuring 12x12" and the bottom 12x18". The overall measurement of the sides pieces are 18" x 82"
I saved the parts that I cut out for the doors and used them for the actual doors themselves, then added trim to frame them out and make them decorative.
The back is 1/2" plywood cut 10" shorter than the total height of the piece(72"). The top 10" was used to put wire in for ventilation.
The top is all wire which I attached with a staple gun onto the framing.
I used some extra pieces of old trim I had and put it around the top and bottom of the piece to dress it up.
The screen that was removed from the screen door in front was replaced with glass and siliconed in place for ease of cleaning.
I then attached feet left over from an old chair.
Primed and painted the interior a caramel brown and painted the exterior a dark chocolate brown.
Hope this helps.
Thanks again

What kinds of birds and how many are in your aviary? Also, I love your plants. Is it one long garland that you just twisted around? I have plastic plants at the bottom of my finch cage that my birds love to sit in but yours really looks pretty hanging on the sides. I have a flight cage for my finches but I would love to have an aviary for them one day. Where do you keep it in your house?
You've really inspired me!

I have three canary hens all on nests right now (1 has 3 eggs hatched out). Three canary males, and 1 gouldian pair starting to nest and 2 spice finches. Everyone seems to get along great and there is plenty of room for everyone!! The plant I purchased at Hobby Lobby and it is a 6' garland that I do wind around in different directions ever couple of weeks when I do a BIG clean out.
