Since I've updated Noodle and Jinx's cage to a double stacker, I've been worried about Noodle not getting enough light. He get some from the window in the room, but his cage (bottom) is still much darker than Jinx's (top). I have a full spectrum light hanging from the ceiling for Jinx and Boyd's cages but Noodle doesn't get any of it.

I've seen people on this board have the featherbrite lite or similar type lights for their birds, but haven't seen anybody with a lamp. I was thinking of getting a table size lamp for him and put a full spectrum light in it. I like the featherbrite lite, but it doesn't seem to come with a lamp stand, only the ones that sit on top of the cage.

Anybody have good luck with table sized lamps or even floor lamps? Any suggestion of who makes a good one? I've only seen Zoomed having a table sized one.

I do not have a bird light but I see that you can buy bird bulbs on drsfosterandsmith.com . Then you can put it in your favorite lamp if I read that correctly.

The light needs to come from the top. Not sure how you can do that if a cage is on top.

I wasn't looking into getting any regular lamp, I was scared of the potential for the lamp itself to heat up too hot and then having the birds accidentally land on them and burn their feet.

As for a table lamp, I was considering a table lamp and setting it on a stool or something so that it sits slightly above the cage and shine it at an angle downward into the cage. So it won't be directly above, but I figure it's better than nothing.

Noodle really enjoyed it when I pushed the cage up to my patio doors so that sun shone right into the cage. He sat in the sun and twittered softly to himself off and on. I thought it was the birds outside!

we got a $5 clamp lamp from walmart's hardware section and put a full-spectrum bulb in it (per the breeder's suggestion) and it has worked great for us! very economical, too.

I have FeatherBrite lights on top of Kiwi and Kermit's cages and have one on order for Angelina's cage (my newest, adopted P'let). The lights sit on top of the cages on a "grill" type of platform, which holds the light up off the top of the cage.

When they come out for playtime, they always run up under the lights for a few minutes and just sit there, like they're sunbathing! They are certainly more active when the full spectrum lights are turned on.

The lampshade only gets warm to the touch and the grill it sits on keeps them from getting near the bulb.

They must get something out of the lights, because they sure seem to enjoy them!

Just a quick update:

So I got a lamp for Noodle. Good news was that it was on sale and included the light bulb, which the replacement bulbs are significantly cheaper than the ones that I have for my other cages. I've already noticed that Noodle is hanging out more often on the side of the cage where the lamp is, so he must be enjoying the full spectrum light (before he went over there only because the food and water dishes were there).

Today, I brought them outside in their cages so now they're enjoying the natural light :)
