View Full Version : Apartment complex spraying for bugs

I guess some of my neighbors are having bug problems, because I had a note on my door saying the "insect" inspectors were coming to check out the apartment. They didn't just want to look, they wanted to spray! We hadn't been told to prepare by emptying our cupboards, and lucky my roommate was there to tell them about Darcy. She asked, and the insect man man said no animals could be in the apartment while spraying (no duh) and that it would be safe for Darcy to come back two hours after it was over.
I don't really believe this "two hour" business. How long do you think it will be unsafe for Darcy after they spray? My parents live less than an hour away, so Darcy could go stay with his grand-parronts for a while.

I don't know, to be on the safe side I would probably ask your parents to take care of them for a day or two (after you've had time to air out the apartment thoroughly).
Luckily, my apartment complex uses a brown paste in the kitchen that goes in the corner of the cupboards, has no fumes, and goes nowhere near the birds, I haven't had any issues at all with it.

I agree, 2 hours isn't near enough time to make sure all the vapours are gone. I had my apartment sprayed a few months ago, and I just brought Edy to my parents for a couple days to be on the safe side.

I would definitely have your parents watch Darcy for at least a day. Those fumes can linger and even if you cant smell them, its possible your little one could still be in danger.

After the fumigation treatment, I would open all the windows in the apartment for ventilation.

Thanks for the responses! Hopefully they will spray on a Thursday or Friday. That way Darcy and I can just take a long weekend to visit my parents. Honestly, though, I think they'll be more excited to see Darcy than me.

Good that you are taking him to your parents! You can't be too careful.
