My Pacifics are just confusing me. Last week on the current clutch (I know they have eggs because of the behavior), I could hear a peeping baby(s?) in the box while both parents were out. This week I hadn't heard anything so I peeked, and there are no babies and no eggs. There's not even shell or dead bodies. What happened? Their breeding history is a complete roller coaster, but the environment never changes, so I don't know why.

That is quite odd....I hope you figure things out. it would drive me nuts thinking I heard babies.

I am 100% certain there was at least 1 baby. The timing was also right for hatches, considering how long they had been staying in the box. A few clutches ago, they killed 3(?) babies in a row, the day of each hatch. The clutch previous to that was fine. I eliminated my own nosy nest peeks, the loud vacuum, and left a nightlight on. The next clutch went perfect. Then the next next clutch, nobody hatched. Then this clutch, I guess they are back to killing. I haven't nest peeked for MONTHS since the original killed-babies-clutch. I don't run the vacuum when they are on eggs. I still leave on the nightlight. I don't think anything has changed since the last successful clutch...

Eddie was the only survivor of his clutch (5 eggs hatched). He also suffered permanent injury. I wish I knew why they did this.

I am puzzled why they SEEM to be such good sitters, but it's a coin flip on the chicks getting fed or neglected (I suspect they never fed any of the clutch that died after hatching).
sorry to hear the news. i know that in my experience with quaker parakeets, it is usually one of the parents not both. if you pay enough attn to the parents, which may mean a video camera needs to be used, you will see which one is killing the babies and then by replacing that bird you may find breeding success. im not saying get rid of the killer bird, I'm just saying find a new breeding partner for the nice parent. hope that helps :(
