The cage brand that I bought for Eddie is on sale at windycityparrot.com

Eddie's happy home:

Marvelous Pet cages are 25% off right now, and free shipping.

I am thrilled with the cage that I got.... if I had known they were going to go on sale, I would have waited and ordered the larger cage! Aside from being stylish and well built, the best feature is how easy it is to keep this cage clean.

The cage I got for Eddie:

The larger version of the cage:

And no, I don't work for them or get any kind of incentive from them... I just really like the cage I got. I know they cost a bit more than HQ cages, but if both Eddie and myself are going to live with the cage for nearly 20 years, I don't mind the extra expense.

Those are my apothecary jars filled with things like Eddies basic seed food, sunflower seeds, herb salad, sprout mixes.... I can keep some of his supplies out in the open in nice looking containers, and put the plastic packages & bulk containers out of sight in the cupboard.

The larger cage has 6/10" bar spacing instead of the 1/2" recommended for P'lets. It's about the same size as the HQ flight cage, and for my money's worth, I'll pay $144 for the HQ instead of $296 for this one. I've never been a fan of the top opening cages, though I know some people like them. I prefer to put perches and a branch up top instead.

The smaller cage at 24 x 22 is a lot smaller and at the sale price $221.25. They may be sturdier cages than the HQ, but I'm quite satisfied with the one I have, and will be ordering another for the new Budgie.

I've taken in consideration all ideal recommendations when selecting a cage. My main concern was accommodating Eddie's disability. Maximum cage size, quality, features, style and price all followed.

As far as the bar spacing on the larger cage, I did the math before I ever bought a cage. The 6/10" bar spacing is measured on center of the bars, which are 3mm diameter (about 8 gauge), compared to 1.96mm (about 12 gauge) on the HQ cage. So in reality, the actual open space between the bars works out to .48".... slightly less than the 1/2" max recommended. The actual space between the bars on my 1/2" cage is 3/8". I know, confusing switching from mm to decimal to fractions, but its even more confusing using all fraction measurements!

I don't care for the open top feature either... just happens to be a feature of that cage.

The HQ flight cage may suit others needs and budget... this cage suited mine (and Eddie's).
