I lost my parrotlet Ziggy :( So we got another one that looks just like him and named him, well, Ziggy, haha :) . Anyways, the new Ziggy, which we had for about 5 days now, sleeps sideways, he climbs the side of his cage and hangs sideways in a certain spot, and thats how he sleeps the whole night, hanging sideways. Is this bad? or does it not matter? If it is bad, how can I stop him from doing this? Thanks

Chipper slept like that for a few days. Now she is relaxed. I have had her for over a year. Do you have a lot of toys and diff. perches like rope perches, swings, wooden toys? Chipper has changed her place she sleeps several times..This is where she used to sleep, now she sleeps bet. the cage and a toy. I can't get a pic. she moves when I uncover her. She may come down and find a nice spot when she is more relaxed.
Is she covered? Is her sleep quiet and can she sleep for 12 hours?http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/Sally11/PICT0514380.jpg

Thanks Well I don't think he can keep that up...they need to rest..how can you rest sideways hanging off the bars? Does he have a good perch to stand on? Do you cover the cage at night? How old is he? Please watch him and try to make help him make his adjustment to his new home easy. Maybe he feels insecure. Poor baby, let others post and give their opinions..no I don't think that is normal.
Mine will sleep hanging onto a rope or the bars, the only downside is that they can't poop in this position, so if you pick them up (or do a 'step-up') you will get a surprisingly large present within 15 seconds! Our girl MeMe loves to hang from our blinds for long periods of time, when I pick her up, the first thing I do is hold her over the waste basket so that she can properly dispose of her 'waste' :D .
By the way, I always love the pictures of Ziggy the first, if you don't mind sharing, how did he die?
Good Luck with Ziggy the second!

Art are you saying that yours sleep normaly hanging off the cage????What does that mean?why do they do that?I'm perplexed(all day long...). Don't tell me that is normal or tell me that is normal....mem
This might be common with new birds.
My female did this the first night I had her – She tried to reach the highest point in the cage as she was probably frightened in the new surroundings and their instincts tell them to reach the highest point for safety.
For the next night I put a perch in that spot and she slept on the perch that night.
Try putting a perch in the spot Ziggy [the second] is clinging to and see if he uses it.
Memmey,
Usually not in their cage but if they are out, they take naps on the window blinds (but don't worry, I would never call you and Jo normal ;) ).

Sometimes Baby will sleep with one foot on her cage and the other on a toy. Sometimes she'll sleep on a perch. Maybe it depends on her mood. I don't know.
Maybe Ziggy II is insecure like memmey said. Just give him sometime and maybe he'll start sleeping on a perch.
Good luck with Ziggy II.

Whenever Nemo has his hamster wheel in the cage, he sleeps on that, regardless of where it's located in his cage -- high or low. He actually perches on that centre piece that sticks out in the wheel, the rotating point of the wheel. Is he weird or what?!
Kathy,
He's not weird, but if he was human, he'd be an engineer...;)

Hahaha, that's a funny thought! Although I already have one male engineer in my life (boyfriend), I don't think I'd appreciate another one! Joe gets too scientific on me, sometimes I've got no clue what he's talking about.
