Just checking in on this.. both p'lets were hatched in June (a couple of weeks apart). When I pick them up at the Pet store, I was told Pip (blue) had just finished a molt...not that I believed them but that is what they said. I have noticed a fair amount of feathers (not an alarming amount) but a lot more than just one or two on my floor. I have not witnessed any plucking of any sorts. I took a pic because the feathers I have on my floor remind me of feathered pillows..they are fluffy.
Is this a molt...they are eating as if it is going out of style, drink normall. I don't think they are lethargic...no change in behaviours...they let me know when I have not fed them when they know it's time to.
I should also add that Squeek had what I would think are pin feathers just above her beak the other day. They look ragid cause I just finished spraying them so they were preening..but I wanted to caputre the "fluffy" feathers...have no idea what you would really call them..sorry.:(
Looking more for confirmation than anything..

It looks like they are molting to me!! Zazu is molting right now and he was born in august so I think yours are molting as it doesn't look like they are plucking!!

The white fluffy feathers are the down feathers. They molt those as well as the colored feathers. Sounds perfectly okay to me!

down feathers..that was the word i was looking for. Thanks for confirming. I was dreading the thought of something being wrong with them.
Do the two different feathers molt at the same time..or at different times?

I'd like to know the answer to that question too.
Jack is molting right now too. Lots of pin feathers on his head and i've been noticing downy feathers on the bottom of his cage and after he's given himself a good preening on my shoulder, i myself get covered in little fluffy feathers. THey're really cute!

they will molt a few feathers here and there, some wing, some tail, and at all different times.
One thing to do when they are molting, is mist them w/ warm water, also give a few scratches to those hard to reach sheaths, mainly behind thehead, to help out. The hard sheaths can be irrating to the bird and itch, usually if birds are together they will preen each other. if your birds are single and dont "birdy mingle" then you need to preen your bird! fun fun fun..my birds are always willing to allow me to "scratch" a pin feather.

I've noticed he's been itchy lately, and dusty, so I've increased his showering from once a week, to every other day... and this has helped him a lot. (Jack doesn't like misting... so I just bring him right in the shower with me... and that he hates too, but it's better than terrifying him with the spritz bottle) As a result of this every other day shower, he isn't itching as much. I too also give him lots of scritches on his head and remove the white sheaths. He doesn't always like it though. he'll lower his head, begging for scritches, then growl when i start doing it. They're a bit sensitive right now. Poor guy

They look like they're molting to me. My sun conure is just about finished with his first molt!
