HI
What's an expected lifespan for a pet parrotlet with a good diet lots of love and
safe environment, etc. What have your experiences been?
thanks!

I have read that too, that's why I so surprised to also read here that
so many die so young.... it seems that even people who do all the right things still lose them young, and I hope I am wrong... I hope that's not the majority of cases.

I was thinking the same thing! i'm pretty new to the breed, so hopefully mine last 25+!
I wonder if its because they are new to the average bird owner too?
I wonder what the oldest on this forum is?

I know a couple people on the forum have 10 year old birds. All mine are under 5 as well.

I don't know how long Parrotlets have been bred as pet birds, but I'm guessing the numbers have increased dramatically in the last several years. So, not a lot of older P'lets out there. There's not a lot of information on the lifespan of these various Parrotlet species, but 20 years seems to be a number used often.

thats my thinking too Reta. I pulled out my "parrots for dummies" and it said 20-25.

I have heard about a lot of birds dying young because of fatty liver disease...that usually happens when they eat an exclusively seed diet. A lot of them also unfortunately die from accidents. :(
Someone posted about a year ago about a parrotlet that had starated biting after the owner retired. The bird was 19.

I've read 15 to 20. Both my boys are young (nearly 1 and nearly 5).
