Every year at Thanksgiving I buy a bag of mixed nuts to eat... I always shell a few to share with my cockatiels for a special treat. This is my first year with my parrotlet and wanted to make sure they were safe for my little guy. I have read some mixed things about almonds in particular. Any thoughts or suggestions?

A very small amount of nuts is fine. I give Cello a tiny bit of shaved walnut in his bowl a couple of times a week. The Grey and Macaw get nuts daily. Parrotlets, like 'Tiels, Budgies, and Amazons do best without too much fat in the diet. Nuts while healthy are very high in fat.

I'm very careful about his fat intake, that's why I've never given him nuts before. I figured it would be a nice Thanksgiving treat. Anyway, I just wanted to make sure that there were none that I should be avoiding all together. I’ll be curious to see if he likes it.

Thanks. :)

I don't really give my parrotlets nuts except for the ground nuts that are in their Goldenfeast Petite Treat. This is only given as a foraging treat, not daily.
