View Full Version : Disoriented & tilted head

My 8 year old Clyde went to the vet about 3 months ago because he kept tilting his head upwards & walking sideways. He would fall off his perch sometimes when his mate got too close. The vet took blood to check for any illness or poisoning, which came out negative. He said he maybe had a stroke & if he got worse, we could put him on steroids. He hasn't got worse, until today. His mate pushed him & he fell & was disoriented. I went to pick him up & his head was shivering. He stopped after a few minutes. His mate usually follows him around & preens him, but lately, she's been mean to him. Any ideas?

How worrisome! You might have to separate him from his mate for his safety, and provide him with a smaller, more horizontal cage with lower perches. I would talk to your vet. Good luck!

Yes, I agree with Kristen. While something is obviously wrong, I would keep him in a smaller cage with low perches and a padded bottom (folded towel covered by newspaper), and separated from his mate for his protection. Let us know what your vet says too.

aww poor guy. How sad for him :(
Does it come and go?? a friend of mine has a U2 that has seizures and he falls off his perch and his head shakes when they happen (some worse then others) but he is now on meds and hasn't had one in a year where as before they were several a week.
I would definetly seperate them too. AWW poor guy, my heart goes out to you.

The poor little guy :( It's so sad when they are sick. Keeping him extra warm might help him, along with all the things everyone else said. Good luck.:(

I tried to separate them, but Clyde's mate went crazy!! She does not like to be alone. I held them both for a while & she's being nice again. He got scared when he heard a noise this morning & fell again. He got on my finger slowly & was shaky again. I've been sick, so I haven't been able to take him to the vet who is more than an hour away. I put their perches lower & put the cage on the carpet so when they are on their playgym, it won't be so far down. Thanks again for all your help!

When you separated them did you put the cages side by side. From what I have read, usually this is ok with pairs
