Thanks:)

I personally do not have a sleep cage. Jack just gets covered every evening between 11 and midnight, sometimes earlier if we go to bed sooner, and then uncovered around 9. We also have a quieter household. It's my husband, myself,3 guinea pigs and a gerbil. No loud kids or anything, so he sleeps just fine at night, and naps frequently throughout the day.

I don't know if there's a minimum size for a sleep cage. During the day, they need the largest cage you can manage, because they're so active, but at night, don't think they move around much, at least Kiwi doesn't (I can tell from the poop "patterns'!)

I've used a sleep cage for Kiwi since I brought her home. It's her first cage (a King's Cage) and is about 18x18. It's in a spare bedroom and the cage is covered. She goes to bed about 8 p.m. and I get her up about 8 a.m., so usually gets a full 12 hours of sleep time.

She has water and a little food in this cage, just in case she needs them. She has several different kinds of perches in this cage, but prefers her swing or one of her Booda perches. I don't move anything around in this cage, so she'll know her way around in the dark. When I first brought her home, I used a night light for a week or two, but not now.

We watch t.v. in the room where her main cage (HQ Flight Cage) is, plus we have 3 dogs, so I felt going to sleep in another room where it's dark and quiet would be better for her.

Hope this helps. I'm sure others will post their set ups also.

Great, thanks for letting me know.

We picked up our flight cage from the store today..got to look at all the toys..literally toys they had in this store (store was strictly for parrots). A little overwhelming..not knowing what to get and not to get..saw the sweetest carrier though should have picked it up but will look around first.

A great tip that I've come to use: Look in the small animals section of pet stores. Often they have toys that birds might enjoy. :D
I got some fun foraging toys for Jack in the small animals section: a large munch ball being one of them.
I also bought a small animal carrier instead of a bird carrier. It is essentially the same, but I saved 5 bucks. All I have to do is attach a perch to the bars and all is set. :D

May I also suggest that you don't buy a lot of toys right away when you get your bird. I suggest getting 5 or 6 toys, all a little different and see what your bird likes. All you need is 10 or more toys, and it ends up your bird doesn't like half of them. When I got Jack I had 4 toys. After having him 2 months, I've come to see he loves the 'natural' toys over the hard, plastic ones. Knowing what he prefers, i've been able to purchase a handful of others toys. And he actually uses them! I'm glad I waited to go on a huge toy shopping spree, as I'd hate to have wasted my money on toys he never touches.

We do the same for our birds, we just cover them with a sheet in the summer and blankets in winter. We usually put them to bed when it gets dark throughout the year so the time varies.

This is Chipper's sleep cage. She sleeps in it at night and also plays sometimes. She likes to fly to it and play. She goes to bed at 8pm. She sleeps for 12 hours. I cover her after I sing to her every night.
