I love tattoos and have just begun my own adventure into getting them.
I have 2 that I just got in the last year and I already have plans for my 3rd.
It will be a black and grey piece on my forearm of my and my kids Zodiac symbols against a starry night sky.
here are my 2 I have.
The first is a Phoenix and of course the pics don't do it justice.
It took in total about 14-15 hrs of work.

Well I am afraid I am too old and saggy. I got mine as a mid life crisis when I turned 34, got divorced etc. I still like them and dont regret them at all. I have 4 and all are in places that can be covered for professional reasons, but at 45 gravity is not my friend...:)

I have one of ferrets and vines around my ankle. Had a real bad allergic reaction to it, so no more tats for me. If I knew I was going to have the reaction, I wouldn't of got this one...it didn't turn out very well and can't be touched up for obvious reasons. lol

Good One Pam....I hear ya on the Gravity issue. I have 4 of them, and I keep mine covered also. You should see the look  on faces of people that know me, when they find out that I have them. They would never expect ME of all people to have them. Guess I fooled them huh? :p Both my kids have them also. My Daughter went a bit overboard with 8 of them!! :o
House of Critters,

OK, Skthurley, I dare you to get one of Jack :P Think how small it could be.
I was thinking of getting one of my dearly missed Toby in an easily hideable place but the boyfriend wasn't really keen on the idea :(

OK, Skthurley, I dare you to get one of Jack :P Think how small it could be.
My husband would be so jealous! His biggest fear is being replaced by our animals. lol!
But, if you want one, Nikki, you should totally get one. :p
I myself have always loved the pawprints that Eve (the R and B, hiphop singer) has tattooed. I'd want to get the identical ones to her... They'd suit me well ;) I'd just worry that at times they wouldn't be very ladylike....

LoL I'm too scared of what it would look like in 20 years. It probably would go from a parrotlet on a boob now, to an Amazon that started on my chest and stretched to my navel.

LOL! How sexy! Saggy parrotlet and amazon. Whoot whoot!

LOL! Boobs, belly and butt are not great places for tattoos in the long run.
I wear mine proudly and they have meaning for me. I'm 32 and recently was a bridesmaid in a strapless dress. LOL I got many compliments.
My Mom is in her 50's and just got her first 2 this year as well.
My Artist has even done a 72 yr old Grandma!
If you want one get one! Don't let someone tell you you cant or shouldn't do anything.
Next month I am going to get my Navel pierced! :D
Thank you for the compliments!

im up to 4 so far with a few more planned.
of the ones planned.
1: a pawprint, my chinese crested/service dog/heart dog, i want her actual paw print though not some generic print. not sure where yet though, probbaly close to my heart.
2: on my left ankle/foot, "not all who wander are lost" with pink stars
3: on my right ankle/foot "Where we will We Roam" same font with pink stars to match the left. Im a gypsy at heart, my fathers side traces roots to romani and viking, mums side to anne Bonnie (pirates) and Canal gypsies. my parents lived on solid land, but i spent most of my child hood on the canal boats and both these lines just say everything right there.
4: japanese maple leaves and pink stars, this will be my huge peice, the peice will be done in such away that you will see some of the stars fully, some will be partially covered by laceleaf maple leaves in reds and oranges, the leaves will look like there simply blowing/falling, it will go from my right breast, over my shouder, towards existing #1 then cross over the back to go to existing #2 then over the hip to wrap round the thigh.
that one wont come untill ive lost my 100lb goal though (im 100lbs down 100 lbs to go!) it wont be together enough to look like a full back pecie but it should look like one cohearent peice that flows AND joins 3 of my existing 4.
id also like something around the belly button again once the weight has been lost, and i have plans for a little shadow/demon thing with cute eyes and big ears that im not sure where he will go yet.
my CURRENT existing tattoos
2 notes first:
1: the bat winged fox is my totem animal, many people have multiple totems through their life, however often 1-3 will stay as your "perminent" life long totems...usually however they show themselves as 3 seperate entities, each there to teach/show a different aspect of yourself...mine however has always shown itself as a combination of red fox with bat wings that are tipped with raven feahters...weird yes, but i feel such a strong connection its nice to have his likeness watching my back at all times.
(yes im pagan, eclectic with native and gypsy influences)
2: ALL the peices i have thus far (and all the peices i will have in the future are one of a kind colaborations, either drawn entirely by me (the case of all 3 of my first 3 or partially drawn by me and added to or redrawn by the artist, my 4th the skull is my drawing, the stars were drawn by the artist because i have a hard time drawing stars equally lol!
# 1
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b172/FoxyLaRouge/Artwork/Tattoos/tattoos.jpg
he is on my shoulder and the 3rd tattoo i got. he took about 4 hours to complete. hes 3 yrs old
his tail and right wing were semi painfull because they hit rather ticklish spots lol
#2
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b172/FoxyLaRouge/Artwork/Tattoos/freshink.jpg
hes on the left side of my lowerback/upper butt cheek (i have a flat tush!) again about 4 hours under the needle (mabe longer i slept through some). i need some of the white touched up at some point because im very pale and the white fades quick.
hes the 2nd tat i got and is 4 yrs old
excuse the dimples and wringles it was fresh and im fat. :P
#3
is a black with red eyes stylized fox "skull" with crossbones (i play a pirate 9-11 months of the year)
(no pics)
hes on my outer thigh, took about an hour and was my first tattoo, the one that started it all. i took a nap during the middle of it but im well padded, the thigh is usually a "tender spot"
hes 4 yrs old.
and #4
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b172/FoxyLaRouge/Artwork/Tattoos/100_2035.jpg
my most reacent and about 6 months old at this point, this one was a colaboration...the skull is entirely me...the artist had to do the stars though cause i cant draw stars for beans (they end up uneven lol) this one is more of a fun, just representing me kind of peice that id wanted for a while...id had it drawn out for quite some time, then was having a very bad time in terms of depression so whent and spoilt myself to cheer me up. (shiney cause its new) im obsesses with all things pirate/skulls and HOT PINK and black is my fave color compbination.
this one was the most painfull, the top tips of the 2 largest stars were right on the tendons in the neck, and the tinest stars on the end are in very tender spots too, but for the most part i was fine, it took about 5 hours to do but that was mostly because 2 friends interested in getting tats came along and the artist is cool so we were chatting and sistracting him lol.
problems with tats
they are totally addictive and rather expensive!
in terms of allergy to the inks, im allergic to ALOT of things but 98% of inks are now made hypoalergenic (as are the needles, they banned anything but surgical) id be more concerned about the shop than the actual ink, coule have been a bad batch or old ink, especially if the quality of the tat is low...
this goes for anyone THINKING of getting one, DO YOUR REASERCH, it took me 3 years to settle on a shop, then when the origional artist left i not only checked out the new artists portfolio, but literally interveiwed and drilled him...same for eahc thereafter, ive got 3 different artists work on me. i chose depending on the style im looking for, my first 2 were done by an artist that specilized in life drawing, his portraints were stunning and hed done many wolves and dogs, was excited to get to do his first fox, i was confident in him before getting the tat, the second artist (shoulder fox) specilized in a softer more comic/fantasy style, perfect for what i wanted, the 3rd does absolutly stunning fantasy but likes the "fun" stuff i fell in love with his shading though (ill likely have him do my 2 ankle peices because hes a fantastic "letter-er) ect.
check the shop, if its not spotless dont get it dne there, they should open their needles and set thier station up Whenyour there watching, if they open the needle not in your presence demand a new one or walk out, never leve that to chance (there was a tb outbreak in 3 parlours local to me because of them reusing needles! i refuse to go anywhere thats not spotless (and smells clean!)
and you should get a good feeling when you tlak to the artist.
and i agree, if you want one...and i mean truly want one...go for it. put plenty of thought, get something thats meaningfull to you and you know you can look at it for the next 60 years without puking....go for it!

Shit! I love your fox tattoos! Gorgeous! Don't you dare make me want to get a tat!
LOL.
There are 2 tattoos I want for sure.... though i highly doubt i'll get either....
1)The pawprints on the cleavage that Eve has.... LOVE THEM!
2)Cross with a red rose wrapped around with a sash along the bottom with the scripture reference James 4:8.... tis my favourite verse.
Peter and I may also get the scripture reference Micah 6:8 on our wrists.... not too sure... I'm really scared of the pain.... But, that's our wedding verse, and I kind of want it.... honestly, the pain is the only thing that is keeping me from getting a tat of any sort
I'd also love something with a wolf... but what and where... i dunno... LOL! I'm a wolflover... I have wolves everywhere in our house!
See, I'd get lots and lots of tats if I started... they're freaking addicting!
.....
Piercings rock!
I have 3 holes in the bottom of each ear, and 2 in the top of my left, one in the top of my right... and the left side of my nose pierced
If I was thinner I'd totally get my navel pierced. My next piercing - lip! I just need to get a job first.... i dont want to get a job where it would be bad to have a lip piercing.. i'm hoping to God I get a job where it's acceptable. lol!

in terms of pain.
different people have different pain tolerance levels, and location of tat will also dictate pain levels.
the BASIC pain feels kind of "interesting" personally i describe it as:
you knwo when cats are content, and they sit their kneeding you with their claws, and for the first few minutes its fine, but eventually after 10 minutes of it in the same place it starts to be that annoying not quite truly painfull, but still hurts kinda.
ive heard others describe it as a bee sting or sunburn.
get it in exposed and fleshy areas to reduce pain.
the general rule of thumb, if your TICKLISH there its going to hurt more than an area thats not, and over a bone (wrist, ankle, back of neck, down spine and RIBS (the rib cage is the most painfull area for a tattoo)) those areas can be very painfull.
the pawprints on the chest as long as their not low down into the cleavage shouldnt be bad at all, especially if there not huge! (but remember breasts change with gravity and different bras so make sure placment will look good both in a normal bra and a push up bra. I work rennaisance faires so when i get the leaves on my chest they will have to be done in such a way that they look good in a bra AND a bodice)
personally i find peircings more painfull than tattoos, but its a different kind of pain, where a peircing is that sharp sudden pain and then pretty much done, tattoos are more of a dull pain that takes a little longer.
if you space out or meditate easily then getting a tat should be no problem.
and THANK you for the comments on my foxes, im in love with them

liltreasures- I LOVE the foxes!! your Tattoos are beautiful!
I have had 3 kids and just dropped 20 lbs and need to loose a little more so My Belly is not really show off material but I don't care I am doing it for me and i doubt I will ever show it off. That''s always my way of thinking, I do things for myself and because I like it and so what if I am not nice and skinny with tight abs.
What's nice about piercings is, most you can take out. I got my tongue done years ago and nobody believes me there was no pain at all just felt really funky!
My First Tattoo (phoenix) hurt at the top of my shoulder but that was about it, the rest was not even really annoying.
My second, the music and bird was more painful. Probably because there was a lot more line work. My phoenix is mostly shading.
Every one is different as far as pain tolerance and sensitivity though.
Some find Shading very painful and line work barely noticeable.
Feathers McGrommit- Yours are very neat! I Love forearm and Wrist tattoos.
I can't wait to get mine done. I may get something on my wrist on my right arm as well. Although it would be small as I don't want to take away from my Phoenix.

I don't really think about marking myself or peircing (only ears!).
BUT if anything, I would love to get small angel wings on my shoulder blades. (not filled in white or grayish/black, just a black outline of a pair.)

for me the shading is almost therapudic but line work is usually what twitches, and your right, pain tolerance is so variable! lol.
the pheonix is stunning, i love detailed shading.
and those f-holes are adorable!

Nice tats! I have 5 and would like more. I have tribal with my two parrots and some flowers on my lower back, butterflies on my hip, a peace dove on my other hip, my two kids birth flowers on my foot, and an angel done in black and gray on the back of my neck. My foot was the most painful. I have to learn how to post pics soon!! My parrotlet has been with me one month now. he flew in at a pet blessing and I took him home. I never found his previous owner. He is a sweet bird! Chris

I love the mother/daughter and both the fox/bat ones and of course the spirals!
I only have one. It's the symbol for phi and a butterfly for very personal and spiritual reasons that would take a page to explain and bore you. The butterfly I was NOT happy with, I wanted a life like one I drew for the artist but ended up with his version and I don't think I could get it fixed. It's not bad, but not what I drew. Even the symbol isn't as graceful as the one I gave him. But it's the meaning behind them that's important to me anyway. I'd also like to get a crow, ferret with wings, and maybe a little blue bird, LOL!
Please excuse the sock mark and my tan already faded from all the swimming I did this summer, so sorry if I blind you!

Looks great! The butterfly looks rather lifelike to me. I'd love to hear the meaning behind your tattoos. That's the best part about tats!

Ok, but this is a hard story for me to share and I usually just blow it off when someone asks about my tat.
Right after my mom died, I went outside and sat on this boulder in the middle of the field next to the hospital. I sat there and felt numb. She was my best friend. I was thinking how lonely I felt and of all my family and friends who were dead too. Then the monarch butterflies came. There were at least hundreds of them and they started flying all around me, circling me over and over. I felt my mom there with me. I can't describe it, but I KNEW she was there. I felt total peace and I knew I'd still be sad but I'd be ok too. My husband came out looking for me and saw it. He told me later that it looked like I was in a butterfly tornado. They must have been flying like that for at least 5 minutes. A while later I did some research about butterflies and many cultures believe they are a sort of soul transport. I never really believed in God or a higher power until that moment, having had my share of senseless tragedy. Anyway, that's my butterfly story, and also relates to the symbol next to it. It's basically there to remind me that yes, there is chaos in the world, but also an underlying pattern to everything. If your interested google it under the golden mean or golden ratio. So instead of a cross, Star of David, pentagram or whatever, it reminds me that we, and everything in the universe, are all part of a whole, a greater power, a pattern. So, you are free to believe my story or think I'm a nut job now.
