Hi everyone. Our forum, as well as many other forums across the Internet, has fallen victim to a recent aggressive spam attack. This attack in no way compromises your information. However, this attack does lead to the creation of many false accounts, some of which contain inappropriate words in the username and/or profile. In addition, threads of a pornographic or spammish (many links) nature may be created as well.

To combat this attack, we have to perform an update of the forum software to strengthen our registration process. Unfortunately, this will not stop the attacks. This will simply slow them down, which will make it more managable for staff.

Luckily, this site specifically has not been targeted nearly as much as some other forums, my own included. I would still like to take some precautions to possibly prevent the attack here from getting any worse.

So once again, a forum update will be performed some time tonight (between 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM EDT, October 3). The downtime should only be about 15 minutes. Just beware that there might be some bugs to be worked out after the update though.

Thanks in advance for your understanding. If you have any questions, let me know.

Thank-you Dave for updating the software to help to avoid any chances of trolls coming to this lovely family forum. Like many others, I don't want them tramatizing my innocent 15yr. old mind. lol

I have no understanding why people are like that?

I saw lots of spam posts lately--
I remember the border terrier message board was very strict about even allowing members to join -- there are many emails with confirmation passwords and such.
I thought it was kind of a hassle but now I see why they did that

Maybe we need to hype security a little bit? Not sure if this is possible on this forum, but maybe have the admins approve the first 3 posts of a new member? I've seen this done in other forums. It is annoying yes, but it may help with spam.
