Books

I'm new with parrotlets, and I wondered if anyone could recommend some good books on parrotlets, breeding and training. I know I could find all the stuff free on the net, but I love books, and plus I have dial up lol.

Has anyone read The Parrotlet Handbook? Is it any good?

the parrotlet handbook is great but somethings are a little outdated
for instance recommending feeding 'grit' which is unnecessary
it's still a worthwhile read. I've found this forum to be very educational as well, you can always search nearly any topic and it's sure to have been discussed on here.

I think the whole Parrotlet Handbook is available to read online as well, so you could just glance over whats in it to see if it would interest you. Can't remember the link but I'm sure you could google it.

For training, I liked the Parrot Training: A guide to taming and training your avian companion book.

It is a great book, but it is outdated. I found some info in there, that me and my vet both disagreed with. I do think that it is a great source of basic info, as well as for parrotlet biology. I would check online, maybe from Amazon.

Aw, I wish I had known it was online for reading. I just ordered a copy of it. Speaking of books, The Parrotlet Alliance, Inc. has back issues of their newsletter for sale on their website. I bought 3 of them that had articles pertaining to areas I was interested in. They were very inexpensive, and they're chalk full of GREAT info on Parrotlets from breeders and experts. Lots of GREAT color photos too. I highly recommend buying some. I may have to buy a few others. :) Oh, and I just saw that they carry PARROTLET POCKETS for you to wear and carry our little friend with! Yeah!

I just got a fabulous little training booklet, specific to Parrotlets, called The Marceau Lessons. I ordered it online from the Parrotlet Alliance, Inc. This book has the most amazing training info specific to parrotlets (and their stubbornness and quirks). It's written by a Parrotlet breeder. I wish I had this 2 mos ago!
