He absolutely never wants to be in his cage, never had this before so I don't know if this is unusual. I put the play area in front of his cage and thats where he is choosing to hang out.

Oh, Lisa, Gizmo is so beautiful and adorable! What fun that he has such a social personality. Is this true of conures in general? Will he stay this colorful as he becomes an adult? How old is he now? I had never heard of a Pineapple Conure - he's really cool!

Wow he is so beautiful!!
Pineapple Conure is a mutated color gene of the Green Cheek,
This is a little excerpt from Merlin and Archimedes Breeder's website.
Breeders know they are a combination-breeding result of the mutations cinnamon and yellow-sided. Pineapple conures are normally more costly since they are rare and it can be 'tricky' finding males (because of sex-linked genetics involved).
Here is a link to her page write up about them.

The lady at the store said he is 5-6 months old, he (I call him he but unless I get a blood test there is no way to know and I am not putting him through the test) he will stay his beautiful pineapple color, not sure if it intensifies as a parrotlet but we will wait and see.:)
I read about a lot of cuddly bunny conures, when I was researching it seemed the green cheeks are very friendly and slightly quieter than the others. I know he was bred in Florida and from his attitude I presume hand raised, I think the people in the pet store played with him as well so he just craves attention from all. The only time he has screeched is when he was left alone without any music, he just purrs at times instead. Right now he's sat on his playstand (the cage he feels is a torture chamber !) watching my daughter clean her room which is two rooms away.
Even though we have only had him for a day he has charmed all with his curious loving nature and need for head scritches. My husband loved when he preened his ear until he decided he needed to climb it.
I feel Pickles led me to this wee guy and is smiling down at us. Although if she was here she would be doing her pitbull impression to let him know she was queen bee.

Gizmo is one beautiful bird. I have a 4 month old Brown Throated Conure who is a wonderful bird ... very entertaining. He also does not like to stay in his cage and I always have a bathtub on the side of the cage since he takes a bath about every other day. One thing I have heard about some of the conures is that they like to sleep on their backs so don't be alarmed. Beaker will actually somersault off my shoulder when we're playing. Conures are incredible birds..congrats on your new baby. If you want to determine the sex, I believe there is a feather DNA test vs. blood test. Now, of course, a feather has to be pulled out which is uncomfortable for the bird...my best advise is to ask your vet their opinion. here's a link on avian DNA sexing through feathers http://www.dnasolutions.co.uk/dna-testing-sexing.htm
