so my beloved but ever so mischievous Diablo ran into a spot of bother a couple months ago...
I noticed she was being weird.. i couldn't say precisely what was wrong but she seemed a bit down. I was feeding her water on her sleepy swing before I went to bed and I heard this weird popping noise. I realized it was coming from Diablo! Next morning I bundled her off to the vet. Apparently D's throat was bright red and her air sacs were inflamed.
The vet suggested maybe she had eaten something hot... then I remembered two days previously I had turned my back for a minute and the little bugger had landed on my tea cup and taken a slug of tea before I had time to stop her.
Apparently she burnt her throat and crop and that somehow inflamed her air sacs. I did know realize this, but birds cannot tell when something is too hot. They lack some sort of nerve response. While I would never have given her hot food intentionally, I am now extremely careful about what she investigates on her own volition.
