Has anyone used a cage with 5/8" bar spacing successfully?

Let me just say get 1/2" From personal experience... The first cage I bought Toby was 5/8" spacing and the little rascal figured out how to escape from it. See this forum post to see what a problem it turned out to be:

The temporary cage I had for Cello had wider bar spacing, about 5/8". Had no choice until we could drive to Texas and pick up the HQ cage two months later. Cello didn't get in trouble but I was worried about it, wove lots of stuff through the bars. Mexicans are a bit bigger too than Pacifics, so it could be that for them the 5/8" is not a problem. I think it's best to stick with 1/2" to be safe.

Thanks Nikki. I needed to hear the "personal experience" so that I could comfort myself with the knowledge that indeed this quest I'm on is neccessary. I will keep hunting so that Petie and I don't have to repeat your story.:) What is frustrating is that people selling cages don't know how to measure bar spacing. This means I go to see the cage their selling, after confirming the bar spacing, only to find it is too big. Getting the good HQ flight cage in Canada, with shipping and everything, is close to $300 and is way over my budget. Thanks for the info.

I have heard from other Canadians that it is hard to find good bird cages at decent prices there. Maybe some of our other Canadian P'let owners can chime in with information about the cages they found and are working for them.
