head shaking

hulk has been shaking his head a lot... it looks as if he's trying to shake something off from his head.....

i've noticed he's been having a lot of pin feathers near his neck, head, and beak area is this the cause of it? pin feathers probably itches or something huh?

Will he allow you to scratch his head and work on some of the pin feathers? If the pin feathers are bothering him, he may need some help with preening the pins that aren't super hard. Will he bath or allow you to mist him to help with softening the pin feathers. If he doesn't want scratches...even to gently rub his head and cheeks and under the beak could be a relief for him.

With the head shaking, he's not spitting up anything is he? Do you notice any milky, sticky stuff on his head?

Sounds like it could be the wiggle-neck dance...Py does that now for his washcloth...:rolleyes: ...he doesn't regurg at all but he does look 'busy' with his beak and tongue...he's in love with a green washcloth.

When I brought Ziggy home, Emmie did the wiggle neck and then he did it too. It's the funniest thing I've ever seen them do! They haven't done it since.

My bird shakes her head (shakes like a dog after a bath; not wiggle neck) if she hears water or gets excited about something.

I'm so relieved to find this thread. Maggie has been doing the wiggle neck dance that you speak of! I was so afraid she might be suffering from something. The reason I don't worry is because she seems absolutely perfect, friendly, eating and drinking well, happy, playful, flies well. No problems, just this weird neck shaking thing. lol it's cute, I've tried to get video.

It's actually a mating behavior. It's cute to watch, but try not to encourage it if your bird is doing it for you. Just look away and ignore it.
