Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the replies to my previous post titled, "decisions, decisions, decisions". I think we are going to pick up the little girl soon and we're excited to welcome her to our home.
To prepare for her arrival, we are shopping for the perfect cage. We've read and learned a lot from this forum and have noticed that most have recommended as big as we can afford/accommodate. However, we are planning on setting our cage on a bureau and it seems like the larger cages are sold with stands/wheels.
We have visited all the Petco's and PetSmarts in our area but only sell smaller cages.
Can anyone recommend a good cage that doesn't come with a stand?

Well, the HQ Flight Cage that lots of us have is separate from the base, but it's a HUGE cage to put on a bureau.
This is the cage I'm talking about from HQbirdcages.com (plus it's available at other sites as well).

The flight cage from ValueCrate.com is about the same size. This size cage seems to work out pretty well for Parrotlets. It's 62" tall when it's on the stand.
In looking at HQ's website, most of the cages come with stands. If you go smaller to get a cage without a stand, then the cage may be too small for a Parrotlet. I started out with a King's Cage, which was very nice, but, as I found out, too small for Kiwi -- it was approximately 18"x18" and also came with a stand. It's now her sleeping cage.
I'm not sure whether I've helped you or not! You may need to buy a big cage with a stand, not use the stand, and see how it looks on your bureau. You could always use the stand if the bureau doesn't work out.
Please post if you have more questions. I'm sure others will have more information.

Yes, the flight cages have a stand and rollers. I use my rollers A LOT! I roll the cage from room to room when needed.
A bureau is kind of small isn't it? How wide is it? Flight cages are nice and large.
The pet stores carry very little. Mostly smaller cages. A pity. People then think they are OK to buy.
There are great cages online and that is great. My cage is a Kings Cage. There are lots of great ones to choose from.

I also have the HQ cage for Cello, and I like the stand because the cage can be moved so easily on the wheels. If you want to use it without the stand, it's the same price, but check the measurements and the piece of furniture you plan to use as the base to see if it will work. This is a great sized cage for P'lets.
Birds enjoy a change of scenery - just think about wild birds and how they fly from place to place. We can help them change their view either by moving their cages or having playstands in different rooms, or an outdoor cage so they can have a bit of sun if possible and still be safe.

I highly recommend the cage with the stand. I have the HQ. I roll mine all over - it goes partially next to a window for sunshine and to look out. I'll roll it into the kitchen if I'm busy in there, so I can talk to my birds, and I want to be able to roll it outside on nice days for real sunshine. :)
Just a suggestion - From experience I'd recommend forgoing placing the cage on a bureau. I did that exact thing with my first cage and ended up buying a larger cage with a stand later on. I had my cage on a built it and after having the bird for a while realized the cage was just too small and it was difficult to clean etc. Cost me more money in the long run  :)
