Just thought I'd let everyone know, I just got an e-mail from Windy City Parrot that they're having a 15% off sale on cages and stands until 6/2.

I recently purchased the HQ cage that lots of you on this forum have. The regular price is $129. Right now it's $109.65 using coupon code CS0602 at checkout. No tax and free shipping. A GREAT DEAL!

So if you've been thinking about it, now's the time! Kiwi and I are VERY happy with this cage! :D

jodeg,

Hi! I just noticed your post. I ordered two of those cages for my parrotlet and lovebird. I've had my eyes on those cages for such a long time, it was worth the wait! Great deal. The only thing I don't like are those breeder doors but I used chicken coop wire clips and special pliers to keep those doors closed tight. It works really well if anyone is interested. The pliers are specially made for clipping the wire together and you can find them at farming type stores, anyway, if anyone wants an idea for that.

I had no problem getting them use to the new cages. I put perches in them first and they stepped right up and started checking things out.

I noticed that there is a lot of people tallking about the breeder doors. I just wantedto say that I had a problem with the latches not wanting to close the door shut.

I put WD40 on the latches. Never had a problem! :) So all of you people that are wanting to get a nice, awesome HQ model, if having problems with the latches, just squirt a bit of WD40 on the latch. It does complete wonders. :D ;)

Rebecca, I do not think I would recommend using WD40 around the birds. A little mineral oil would be less toxic, I think. I know that Sadie has her little tongue on everything. :)

Whew: Glad you like the cage too! Kiwi and I love it! It's really easy to keep clean too. I agree that these cages are a great deal!

As for those little "breeder" doors at the top on each side, I know what you mean. I was afraid they wouldn't stay closed either, or that she could work them open, so my husband put two cable ties (some call them "zip lock" ties) on each door. She picked at the cable toys a little bit -- with all the toys she has in her cage too! It's like a kid playing with the BOX the toy comes in! She's leaving them alone now and wasn't able to break them.

She got used to her cage immediately too -- jumped in and started checking everything out right away. Now it's HOME SWEET HOME! :D

Kathleen - I think the sale I mentioned on 5/19 is over now; HOWEVER, they have sales on their cages and other items quite frequently. That cage is $129 right now with free shipping, and still a great deal!

Here's a link: http://www.windycityparrot.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=19302242001

If I get an e-mail from them about the cages being on sale again, I'll post to this forum.

Just a note: I bought this cage from WindyCity. It's not a genuine HQ, at least not the one they sent me. It is, however, built as well as the true HQs. It has a different door latch which I do not particularly like.

I've never had any trouble with the breeder doors on this or my gunuine HQs.

Koki: Are you sure you ordered the same cage? It definitely says it's an HQ cage on their website and info sent with the cage. The latches on my cage are heavy duty and work great.

Check out this article from HQCages.com about comparing the HQ cage to "copycat" cages: http://www.hqbirdcages.com/compare_hq_cages.html

In looking at the pictures, of the cage, the wheels, the close up of the doors and screws, etc., my cage is definitely the cage on the left, the HQ cage. The price on their website is not that different from Windy City Parrot either.

Please check out this article and post again. I don't want to mislead anyone on this forum, but my cage is absolutely the one pictured on the left in the article linked above.

Anyone else with an HQ cage from Windy City Parrot have an opinion about this?

Thanks.

I've bought 'HQ' cages from windycity, and from queencitypets. So for all I know both are copycats.

They are both good strong cages and are virtually identical except for the latches.

The latches on my cages from queencity look like the ones in the photo on the HQ website. They are kinda like a little drop bar. To latch, you close the door, lift the little bar and let it fall into a groov on the side, then slide it back towards the door so that it will not come up without pulling it to the side first. They also have larger bolt heads then the windycity cage and if I had to pick one not knowing, this would be my personal preference.

The latches on the windycity cage have a spin disk that twists behind a catch as you rotate the latch from top to bottom. The whole thing is in a chrome housing on front, but in the back, to the cage side where the birds have access, there is no housing. The spin disk and groove mechansism are availabale to the beaks.
