I have two parrotlets; Piri and Piers.

Piri was bought from a pet store. She bonded to me within 1 week. Within 2 weeks after that, she became codependent, and very angry whenever I was in sight but not with her. (beak banging, walking in circles, et al).

So I got her a friend, Piers. Piers is a male and feral toward humans.

I didn't have to keep the 2nd cage as the two of them took like butter to bread, within 2 minutes of seeing each other for the first time.

I love watching them together, as both seem to be well adjusted to each other -- from the start; I've had Piers for something like a week now.

I sorely miss the time I spent with Piri, but I don't quite know how to make her happy with Piers AND myself.

Plus, Piri got very territorial shortly after the two met. Literally; even going toward the food dish had Piri getting very bitey. (I later read in parrotlet pairs, females often act more aggressively than the male).

From a distance, they feel safe with my presence. Close up, she might nip at his toe to get his attention. Otherwise, as long as I stand there and don't open the cage door, they are fine with me. Indeed, it was amusing watching Piri doing somersaults on one of the tree branches.

Is it possible to get Piri to adjust right now, or should I leave them be and "enjoy from afar"? Knowing where they both came from, and how Piri got wound up when she wasn't having her neck scratched by me, I think keeping them together, in the same cage, is best. What about having 2 cages; one Piri in one and Piers in the other? Or would that be cruel?

Thx!

I would keep them together, separating them will add stress at this point. But have you ever considered clicker training with them? I feel it would be most useful in this situation. Check the training forum :)
