I have read that babys usually have their first molt around 4 months of age. Hadji is close to 4 mo, I dont see any feathers falling out but he has been rather nippy the past two days. Do they get grouchy when they start molting? I have been putting him to bed 30 min earlier and letting him sleep in for the past several days to see if his grouchiness is related to time change. Ideas?
I noticed max get a little nippier around when his first molt started
dont worry youll start to see feathers on the floor of the cage soon enough
Make sure he gets veggies and hard boiled egg for protein

I think the molt can occur older than 4 months old...it's between 4 and 6 months I think  Caly too starts VEEEEERRRRYY slowly her first molt...She lost a feather or two once in a while since 1-2 weeks. Some of her flight feathers have already grown because I can see some of her clipped wings came back to their full lenght...but she doesn't look ravaged at all like I expected...I wonder if it's because of the eggfood I gave her...
Can anybody tell us how much time the first mold usually last? Just curious about that...

kiwi'll be 4 mo on the 28th and he started about 2 weeks ago, he's been nippier and has little pin feathers on his head and new tail feathers
Its hard to say - they all seem different - I guess depending on the bird and its environment, food its consuming etc. My females molt on her overall body I hardly noticed but for her flight wings to grow in (her breeder clipped her) it took FOREVER. I was waiting for them all to grow in and it seemed like it took many months - it was a very slow process.
