For their small size Parrotlets require a lot of living space, more so than birds of a similar size. A cage suitable for a Parakeet or a cockatiel is considered by most to be too small for a Parrotlet. Parrotlets benefit greatly from the largest cage possible you can provide them. The rule of thumb is to get the largest cage you can afford in the beginning so you won't have a need to upgrade at a later date, as most people inevitably will. A birds cage is its home and since they spend a lot of time in there it should be as spacious as possible. Parrotlets being very active need ample room to fly and play and not feel cramped.
1/2 inch Bar spacing is the optimal bar spacing for a Parrotlet, anything wider can be dangerous.
Length and width is more important than height. Parrotlets need room from side to side to fly and play - even clipped birds need this room to exercise and accommodate their toys.
Cage layout is important also. The perches, toys, food and water bowls should flow so that the bird can easily get from one place to the next without hitting anything. Toys are very important to a Parrotlets mental stimulation and to prevent boredom. Rotating their toys is highly recommended. Rotation of toys also keeps the bird from becoming bored with the same toys it sees in its cage day in and day out.
A large cage for a Pair of Parrotlets housed together is an absolute must. A Pair of Parrotlets should never be kept in a Parakeet or Cockatiel sized cage. A Parrotlet Pair needs ample space to move apart when they quarrel and quarrel they do. If housed in too small a cage the bird on the losing end of a quarrel will not have enough space to move apart from the aggressor - the aggressor will feel the other bird isn't backing down and will keep pursuing it - if provided a large living space the bird on the losing end of the quarrel will have enough space to move a respectful distance from the aggressor and the quarrel will end.

Sadie's cage is the Pali Place from birdcages4less. click (http://birdcages4less.com/page/B/PROD/Small_Bird_Cages/PA5719) The dimensions of the actual cage are: W30" D18" H38". It cost $149.00 plus about $55.00 shipping, handling tax and customs fees. A comparable cage from a Canadian wholesaler was $265.00 plus shipping and handling fees. click (http://www.parrotdiseperch.com/parrot/shop_details.php?prod=1155) Also most of their color choices were out of stock.
Advantages
1. The cage is quite spacious but the depth does not take up too much room in my fairly small apartment.
2.It has two platforms and two ladders included and four wooden dowel style perches and two feeder dishes. The platforms help utilize the space well and Sadie loves loves loves ladders. I will be adding more ladders. I have also ordered extra perches to replace the wooden dowels for the most part. The plastic dishes will be replaced with stainless steel.
3. The pull out tray makes for easy cleaning. The bars wipe clean nicely as well.
4. 2 main doors plus two breeder doors makes access easy.
Disadvantages
1. The main disadvantage is the reinforced horizontal bars are two wide for Sadie to grab with her beak. She manages to scoot around pretty good horizontally though. She has her 'fireman's slide' down pretty well too! I think when she has more ladders it will resolve the climbing up and down issue though. :)

Here is Chippers carnival! She has so much fun. The door is always open. She goes in and out, but LOVES to be inside playing. She has a playground on a table nearby also. She flies around the house. A pretty nice little life. She is pure joy for us.

Cage Make: Self constructed at my weekend home worshop.
Cage Size/Dimensions: width: 1m length: 1.2m height: 90cm (as per my convenience to move around through the doors of my house)
Cage Bar Spacing: 1.5cm X 1.5cm = 2.25 sqcm ; economical and easily available in local market aluminium net.
Cage Raw materials : 6m X 90cm Net, 3/4inch hollow square pipe, 3 doz 1/2 inch screws, 5m of 2mm thick GI wires all purchased from local market. 12.4m of 1/2inch alunimium angle biddings to cover the knitted net joints. A bit of welding job (costing $5) for the frame. Total final cost is INR1000 equivalent to USD25.
Airy , spacious and lot of natural playful things used. 95% items used are natural derivatives. Well cut multiple mango branches. bamboo toys. two earthen pot with an 2.0cm radius circular aperture, pots are willfully covered by dried out coconut leaves. the birds have a good time peeling them off. The birds seems to enjoy each bit of internal work and play around incessantly.
the droppings create a lot of problems and needs constant cleaning. the earthen food bowl has to be cleaned in each alternate days and water container twice each day. The whole cage along with the birds are sprayed with dilute 1:200 KMnO4:Water twice a week with a garden sprayer reserved for this purpose.
Over all its fun and self satisfying:)

Bigboy's Palace
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a12/AMorganstern/2007_0223Bigboy0007-1.jpg
I've been told it's a Kings Cage, although it had no label.
It came with one long dowel perch and 4 food/water cups. It has 2 drop down doors. I had to rig plastic links a'la a drawbridge to make a landing strip for Bigboy. The only drawback that I have found is that you cannot hang things exactly where you want them because the roof is curved.

Sweet Pea and Scoots cage is http://www.valuecrate.com/pcft32n.html#
Features I like about the cage, The huge door and its placement, it is really easy to get into and clean, the door stays open most of the day. I also LOVE the shelf, I put all the extra food cups on it, one cup with fruit and the other veggies and pasta. I can hang more short toys for this too. And they love the ladder that comes with the cage.
Features you dislike about the cage: It does not clean itself haha, have not found any thing I dont like.

Bodhi's cage is 30" by 18" by 36". Height with stand is about 64". Bar space is 1/2. It has a large door with a latch. I purchased it locally from a breeder. No brand name on box. Iron/powder coated. Easy assembly... I did it myself with a three year old "helper".
I like the space and the wheels. He seems truly happy with this cage. Being able to move with ease was very important. The tray and grate are much easier to remove than his original cage.
I'm still waiting for a few more perches and toys to arrive... though I don't think I will put many more toys in. I prefer to rotate them out and leave the cage less congested for flying about.
He's rarely in his cage anyway...:D

Jack the Ripper's Cage
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp124/skthurley/100_6309.jpg
Cage Make: Prevue Pet #PPK-TIEL3
Cage Size/Dimensions: 26”L x 14”W
Cage Bar Spacing: 5/8” wire spacing
Cage purchased from: Exotic Wings and Things, Petstore/Breeder where I bought Jack
Features you like about the cage:
The design, It's not too big and not too small. I think it looks neat. It's fair easy to clean as well
Features you dislike about the cage:
The door placement - I need to stretch to reach all the area's in the cage. The door should have been higher or there should be another door in the top or back
And as much as I love the neat design of the rounded top, i wish it was flat so i could put his play stand there when i'm not using it in other areas of the house.
Favorite Toys:
Jack doesn't have too much yet. Currently he has 2 cloth dangly things with beads and wooden dowels, a tooth brush with beads, plus a plastic string of stars. I'm currently looking for some foraging style toys.
Perches Provided:
2 rope perches - One near the top and to the back where Jack usually perches to sleep, and one in the front where he watches and observes everything, and a stone/cement one which he never sits on. Plus a swing with beads in the center which hangs from the ceiling

He looks very happy! I usually change toys every month or two, to keep it new. And with Jo Anne, Nikki and most of us, we'll have you spending way too much on toys, lol. But I think he has a nice assortment. :D
Members have told me 5/8 spacing might be too wide, so keep an eye out if he tries to squeeze through. With winter coming, remember to move the cage away from any drafts like your sliding glass door or near any windows. ;)
I had a similar cage like that for Kiwi and she learned to open the door and seed doors, lol. I had to put clothes pins on holding it shut. They are just so smart!

He is very happy! I did worry a little about it being big enough for him, especially after reading here about the bigger the better, cage wise, but he seems quite happy and content. He's climbing about and jumping around, so I don't think I have anything to worry about.
Thus far, he hasn't learned how to open any cage doors yet. I've come home from my goings about and he's always still in his home. He has come to love crawling out of his cage and exploring. I think he's looking for millet spray. lol. I used to keep it on the shelf below with the fish tank, but he discovered it and was raiding the stash. lol. He's still getting settled so he enjoys times out of his cage, but he definitely feels safest in his home. Right now, i'll consider myself lucky that he hasn't gotten any houdini ideas in his head. lol

Here's Marco's Parrotlet Palace. She's getting more perches, (natural wood), and several ropes to go in there soon. For now, she's got some wood perches, and a couple plastics.

Here's my setup - 2 HQ Platinum Cages with 1 P'let and 1 Pineapple Green Cheek Conure. I rotate the toys every couple of weeks, but usually leave the perches in the same positions. I have wooden perches of different sizes, one cement perch in each cage, Booda perches and so many toys that I have 3 HUGE bins full of toys waiting to rotate in! :o
There are additional playstands to the right and left of the first picture that wouldn't fit in the frame -- a couple of them hang from the ceiling, and two others are on a bookcase and an end table. It's a small room, but it's loaded with their stuff!

cris - Thanks for the compliments on my bird room. I bought the yellow coiled tubing on line at a bird toy website a couple of years ago. I'm sorry, I don't remember the website! I did a general search for them and couldn't come up with anything.
I've since read that you can buy the yellow coiled tubing at a hardware store (like Home Depot in the U.S.) and then just find something to stick on the ends to hold it on the cage. Mine came with plastic shapes with holes in them that fit the tubing. Probably much cheaper to make your own!
My 2 love their Curly-Q (that's what they're called)! They run through them like crazy! I call it their "birdy pass-through"!
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Thanks, everyone! My babies aren't spoiled, are they??? Tee Hee!
Aly & Chris - The lights on top are called "Featherbrite Lights". I bought them on line at different places and at different times. I'd search for Featherbrite Lights and go for whoever had the lowest price at the time. They come in different colors too, which is nice. I really like them. They don't give off any heat, by the way, just light. They set on a grill (which comes with the light) which keeps the light up off the top of the cage. The light also comes with the bulb.
Cris - Hope you can find the tubing!
Thanks, Christine -- It's a really small room, but it sure is jammed packed now! I like it because all their "stuff" is in one room! Those cages take up most of the room!

Jet's cage....
A "Champion" brand, purchased on ebay.
I LOVE that the overall height of this cage is only 53". Makes it so easy to put toys on top and manage the top of the cage without climbing up on a chair! LOL
The tray slides in a bit loosely on the bottom, but that is the only negative I can see. I love the cage. Jilli has one just like it. :) :)

Oh, yeah, I should have given dimensions! LOL
The cage is 32x19x32" inside height. It is a great cage, wheels have locks so the cage wont roll around when you dont want it to. Door is huge and has a nice little lift and lock mechanism for keeping it shut. Six feeder doors with cups. Its really nice. And, the best part, only $99 and free (SUPER FAST) shipping! I can see why you like it! I do too!! The new cage that I got for Ben is an EZ care bow front mini. I got a little break on the price but had to order a lot of replacement pieces as I think it sat on the floor for some time before I came along. I love it now but in the beginning I had to hang a towel on the door so that Bentley wouldn't fly into it. It's got a clear front on it & he couldn't see it I guess. Just kept flying into it. Much better now other than when he decides to bath...gets it all spotted up!! Silly guy! My other favorite cage is also an EZ Care. I got a huge deal on it & it's got a fantastic door (or I should say 2 doors). Very easy to clean...:)

Had to give the before and after shots. The first one is Sky's old cage. It's a King's cage and is 22 x 17. In this pictures Sky is over to the left. I liked the door that opens down and gave her a nice spot to climb out. However, I wanted her to have more room and more toys and swings.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/juliecafaro/SkysOldCage.jpg
The new case is also a King's cage but it is 32 x 21. I really like this one too. Wish the door was just a hair bigger because it is hard to reach some areas to put up toys, but not that big of an issue. With this cage Sky has three different types of swings and her boing to choose from! She loves it. She still doesn't play with toys that much but she does enjoy moving from one spot to another.

I recently got a new baby parrotlet this past Saturday Feb 19. He was handfed and is 9 weeks old now. Is it a good idea to get him a bigger cage when he gets a little older? Right now I have him in a 17 x 17 x 24 cage. I was looking at getting either the Marvelous Chateau 24x22 or the Champion off ebayy 25.5x17(is paint REALLY safe on this cage? I've emailed the seller and he won't respond) or the Kings flight cage 32x21.
I wasn't sure if getting a bigger cage might change him....make him mean or more aggressive. Right now he is really sweet and we are bonding well. I've read on the forum here, that as they get older some can be little devils or bi-polar(one owner said).
I would love to hear what you all have to recommend! Bigger cage later on or stay with what I have?

Wow! What a fun play area! It took me a while to find Apple in all of those toys :P She is one lucky birdie.
Where did you find that huge tree? Did you make it or buy it?
lol thanks ;) Yeah, she is hard to make out.. now that she can fly.. she also uses that as her starting point to leap out at people :)
My Ex Husband cut that branch for me.. he works in an area where there is lots of Manzanita trees and he put a bottom on it and voila :) (Lucky me and Apple)

My cage is the Prevue F040. Its 31x20x52. The actual height of the cage is 40 1/2. There is nothing I don't like about this cage. It has two large front doors and 3 side doors on each side, which makes it easy to put toys in and move stuff around. Overstock.com had it for only 118$ plus 1 dollar shipping. And it got here in just a few days.

We bought a feather brite light and made curtains to cover all his stuff. Cage is cream colored, the light is called sandstone. Pretty close match.

Hey scottgayle1
Just wanted to tell you i purchased the marvelous cage and it looked great and easy to put together only problem was I noticed some areas of cage that looked larger than the stated 1/2 inch. My husband and I measured and discovered some areas were 5/8 and maybe even 3/4. I took mine back to Petco today. Don't even have my baby yet so I am back to looking for a cage. Thinking about one of the king's cage.

I looked at all of the cages and saw that my pictures are gone, so I put some back on the thread. Chipper has a wonderful time in her cage with lots of levels of twisting rope perches, swings of all sorts and toys and places to ring bells, sleep and play. She loves her light and ropes on top of the cages also.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/Sally11/chipper/flyingbird3.gifOf course she flies in the house and the cage door is open unless I leave the room. She is on one of her playgyms right now snoozing! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/Sally11/chipper/lilchick1.gif

Input please:
Does anyone own a Prevue Hendrix cage? I just ordered this one for our new conure, Rio. It sounds #1 safe, & looks pretty enough to have in my living room.

I also ordered this Celltei Pak-O-Bird carrier. http://i972.photobucket.com/albums/ae202/Birdswife1/104514507-450x450-0-0_CellteiCellteiPakoBirdGoldcolorwithStainle.jpg

Wow! Pado's cage is insanely beautiful!! I love how "gothic" and "antique" it looks...My gosh, I would looooooooove to get a cage like that!!
Great job to everyone though...Some of you have such spoiled parrotlets!! Wow, my poor birds were staying at a "birdy motel" rather then the 5star accomodations you guys are providing...Absolutely awesome!

I have an HQ cage for my Tiki & he seems to love it. Clean up is easy. I got white, wanted sand but white went better with my decor lol.
The cage has a removable tray, removable grate, 3 stainless steel cups with access feeders from the outside of the cage, the cart that it comes with has a utility shelf & ez roll casters. Measurements are 22" w x 17" d x 34" h with an overall height of 66". Bar spacing is 1/2".

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m485/tikibaby1967/IMG_1372.jpg
Features I like about the cage: Easy cleanup. Love the casters on the cart, very easy to move around for cleanup underneath.
Features I dislike: Seeds everywhere, but I guess that is normal, I swear Tiki throws them at me ;) just so he can watch me clean up after him!
In the second picture you can even see him standing on the rooftop of his little 'tiki hut' peering out the door! LOL :D
