Went to the pet store to get a better food for the new one and the only food they had that had small hookbill on it is LM Animal Farms Bonanza Bounti-Buffet. It has 16.0% minimum crude protein, 8.0% minimum crude fat, 11.0% maximum crude fiber, and moister maximum 12.0% . If that helps any. Please let me know if this is okay.

what are the ingredients? will you be supplementing this food (seed?) with fresh vegetables, a little fruit, maybe some mashed, plain sweet potatoes? A cooked mix?

yes I will be supplementing with fresh veggies and a cooked mix and maybe some sprouts. Which leads me to another question Can you sprout the food mix? Like the seed that are in it. Because I feel wasteful if I just throw out the food that she came with.

Try a batch and see if it sprouts. Take maybe a TBS., place in a strainer, rinse well, then put in cup or small bowl. Cover with water overnight. Pour back into strainer, rinse and set strainer over cup. Rinse a few times for the next 24 hours. At that time (or even before, depending on the seed) you should see little swellings and tiny white root ends on at least some of the seeds. Those seeds have germinated. You wouldn't want to do this with any mix that has something other than seeds in it, like dehydrated fruit or vegetables - they will get wet, then rot.

Alright thanks. I don't think this mix has any of that in it it looks like a very cheap mix.

If it doesn't sprout, it means the seed mix is not fresh. Then best to toss it. If it sprouts and doesn't contain a lot of high fat seeds (safflower, sunflower), should be okay to feed dry or sprouted.
