I think I am in trouble here. For the last week I have been creating a blog for Riddler and me and have not handled him at all!

Riddler: http://www.threio.wordpress.com ; A bird's Life & Journal

My foul mouth if your interested in satire: http://www.threio.com

Getting back to the real important stuff, I think he is starting to molt, feathers everywhere, and a little bitey! Before last week I could touch him when he flew over to hang out, but now NO..NO...NO...I SAID NO....CHOMP..CHOMP...CHOMP!

How am I going to help him get his head feathers out if he won't allow me to touch him at all, I don't want him to suffer anymore than is necessay.

I was thinking of getting the spoon out again, and making our bathroom trip routine again, what do you think? I am a little worried :( ; pls help!

Okay I do not have experience with parrotlets, but my cockatiels get VERY VERY crabby when molting. They can be mean at times and fustrated, and sometimes with scream. I think the old feathers are getting pushed out by the new feathers and it creates alot of irritation. I could imagine having pin feathers coming out is a killer.

I personally think that misting my cockatiels or offering them more bath time more helps them get through molting, it may help softening the skin or the pin feather itself.

Don't worry your baby will get through it in no time, and will become his loving self again. All he needs is time, and your patience.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

I agree with brynn - since he's molting he's probably crabby and irritated. Just interact with him as normal offer him more bathing opportunities. Expect his mood to be off and avoid his biting. I'm sure he's a bit upset with you also for not paying as much attention to him but he'll get over that - its amplified by the molt.
