Hi all! I am new here and I have a quick question....

I had a breeding pair in which the male passed away. About 2 months later, my female layed an egg. It, of course, was on the cage floor and broke (I know it was not fertile). I recently found a proven male to place with her. The first night I put them together my little female was so happy. She instantly started regurging for him. The next the I knew, she climbed on him and began mating. He was receptive to this the whole time. They have been together for about a week now and the preen each other. They seem very happy. But, I do notice that she "climbs" on him often. Is this normal? I have not ever seen this! Can they breed that way?

I haven't heard of this before but stranger things have happened :p

How old is the new male you put with her? - I have heard if too young of a male is put with an older female and the older female wants to breed she can become very aggressive to the male. A young male that is not experienced or not of breeding age shouldn't be placed with the older female.

I've also heard of same sex P'lets mating - each will assume a roll.

Since you are sure you have a Male/Female I would separate the male until he is older. She may be doing this roll reversal with him now but she could turn on him one day if he doesn't mate her and he just may be too young or too inexperienced.

lowmanrose, have you posted an introduction yet? I know I am not comfortable offering any advice on breeding if I have no clue of what background the asking person has. How does one know if they are giving advice to a responsible person or not? I will be happy to offer some advice based on my experience if you could link me to a very thorough introduction of yourself.
