Hi I just got a month old parrotlet & I'm in love. He's a cutie and I'm looking forward to all the bonding stuff. My only concern is feedings. He only seems interested in the millet. How do you get them to eat other foods. He uses his food dish as a perch. He just walks all over his food and jumps to the millet. Any ideas? Will he just get it over time? I moved the dish so he can't step on it.
Hey mcast12! Welcome to the site :) . Try not giving him millet. See if he'll then go for the seed. I know if I were given the choice between McDonald's and artichokes, I'd go for the McDonald's. But if it were taken away, I'd have to eat the artichokes.
Millet should be used primarily as a treat, not a main food source as it's not really good for them. It's the "candy" of the bird world. :p

Hi,
I rarely give Josephine any millet. I usually combine various vegetables, kale, spinach, herbs, carrots, corn, pasta or rice and lots of hot peppers, red, yellow and green (she loves peppers). She does not like fruits too much although I continue to give them to her. I give her this combination in the morning and replace it later in the early evening with a seed mixture for parrotlets.
Hi! I agree with Dave, I definitely reach for the McDonald's if offered! LOL. I don't give millet in the cage, only on their playground, so they think it is a treat and want to come out to get it. My little ones love a big leafy green clipped inside the cage. (curiosity).
