Hi from our family pet "Conway Tweety". He's a European Yellow Pacific Parrotlet.
35 grams of the best bird in the world.
He was hatched in Vancouver,BC. on June 12 , 2007.

Conway is a lover but not a player. He is a cuddler but a bit of a perch potatoe.
He has a huge cage 30x30x20 inches, tons of toys, boings, shredables, heat panels, special lighting, natual light, organic food, play stands around the house. He gets only the best.
We love him. He loves to be pet, hugged, scratched, rubbed, etc. He will sit with you for hours just as calm as can be. He loves to be loved.

How can I get him to play?

He has it all! He seems happy.
Maybe he is just a super laid back bird. He has a $100,000 in toys that he doesn't use. I rotate them weekly.
I'd like to get a second parrotlet in a cage beside his.
I do not want to lose any of Conways pet quality but I would like a bird that will use the $100,000 in toys.

(Our last Parrotlet was "Shauna". She knew how to play. She was the bird in the manual for Parrotlet bird toy usage. She was also moody and crazy. May God have mercy on her soul.)

So...two things.
1) how can I get Conway to be more active? Or is this just his energy level?
2) If I get a second Parrotlet in a separate cage will I lose Conway as our loving pet?

We are a family of 4 people. Dad, Mom, 2 cute kids. (and lovable Conway)

Audrey...I have the same problem with my girlie. she won't play and I have lots of toys for her. :( I've only had her for almost two weeks and I was told more time is needed. How long have you had Conway? I love the name, by the way!!!

Welcome, too! You will love it here...everyone is very helpful and nice!

My girl parrotlets also are "swing potatoes". They have ample toys, perches, etc but prefer this circular swing. They come off of it to eat or to come out of the cage, otherwise they are on that particular swing.
I am planning on changing the swings, perches, etc today--see if that makes a difference.

Petie was like that at first. Then I put him on a different diet (more fruits, veggies and grains, less seeds) and gave him a strict bedtime. I also gave him a routine for play. Now he plays with his toys and me. It took a long time to get him this way. It wasn't overnight.

Sometimes Kiwi's hyper...sometimes he is not, but he is really affectionate when he wants to be.

He is my feathery ball of fluff though! http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m294/rebeccak3_suekey/candycane2.gif

Hi new member here,

I realize this is an old thread but, I wanted to mention that our little guy was very lethargic until we provided him with several hours of UVB light via an avian bulb every day. There was a dramatic increase in his energy level and playfulness.
