Feather Brained

Ok, our time together seems to be going ok. He's still iffy on coming out of the cage at times, however. I really want him to start enjoying his time *out* more, and wanting to come out when I open the cage. A suggestion for this that I've heard is to keep him in a smaller, more 'boring' cage for a while...which instantly turns his time outs into marvelous playtime.
Granted, I spend a good two hours a day now either sitting near him while he is out, or having him out while I'm either talking with him, or on my computer....kind of indirect attention. We have probably about 30 min of direct attention, during which I am training him ti step up from the perch to my finger, back again, and back to his playstand. And, he's learning to let my fingers approach him. But, like I said, he's still showing reluctance to get out of his cage.
Its also only been a week. But, do you think this is a good idea to try for the next week--and one week only, for as fast as he picks up on things I think he'd get this one in no time--to put him in this smaller cage, and offer him some longer 'out' periods for a while?
