On the other forum I frequent, they started a thread like this, and I love it. Basically, if you can, everyday you post what you've fed your bird that day (mainly fresh foods). That way, newbies and everyone else can see what we all feed our parrotlets on a regular basis and how they get variety in their meals with us.
This morning for breakfast the bugs (my nickname for them) got some cooked oatmeal with shredded carrots and a bit of strawberry jam for flavor (have been giving this lately for breakfast)
The carrots are uncooked and shredded since that's how the bugs like them I've found. they don't touch them when their cooked.
Yesterday they had ravioli (meat stuffed with tomato sauce, homemade) for breakfast and scalloped potatoes and pork for supper (a treat, since the scalloped potatoes are so rich, so they didn't get a whole lot of those)
To new ppl with parrotlets I jsut wanna say that I feel my birds need meat as well for the protien in it (as well as eggs) and since I am a stay at home mom I have time to make a lot of stuff from scratch, and so our birds eat everything we eat. I also feel that birds should have milk ingredients ONCE IN A WHILE, especially yogurt. But not too often since they have trouble digesting lactose. I prefer to just give yogurt if I'm giving a millk product, since the good bacteria in it is something that birds need as well. That is my opinion tho on the research I've done and seen.
Sundays are treat days normally, so this past Sunday the bugs got eggs for breakfast (not a treat but I'm getting to it) and then penne pasta stuffed with a bit of peanut butter (THAT was the treat, they go nuts for it!) Since peanut butter is so fattening, they dont' get it that often. The pasta stuffed with it is a once a month treat for them.
So post about what you've fed your parrotlet(s) today!
