new feathers

My new parrotlet Ike looks like he has had some new feathers growing in on the top of his head. They look like tiny matchsticks- a little white pokey needle coming out of his head. He isn't used to being pet yet, so I have'nt tried to touch them. Should the feathers spread out on their own? He lives alone, so there aren't any other birds around to help him preen the top of his head.

They will do it on their own, but it does get uncomfortable for them. Misting him will help. If you cannot pet him much yet, just mist him and provide lots of places to let him rub his little head. Mist a bit daily. Bottled water, in case chlorine makes him itch. I do that.

Make sure he is getting lots of good foods. A wide variety of foods.
