hey peeps,

im gonna be getting my h/r baby blue male celestial parrotlet soon,
and i want to know about millets, which one is best for a parrotlet?

i notice there is the chinese and french one and also there is two types of french, the yellow and red one, so if its the french one i should give please can you tell me which one exactly!

Also i notice some people only give a bit of the millet, now how does that work? is it a matter of just cutting it off? btw how much millet should i buy to last long enough for one parrotlet, i ask because i see people selling 10 or 24 as a pack! (btw sorry if these questions sound stupid, this is going to be my first parrot u c and i've never seen millets in real life lol!)

should it be offered daily? couple of times a week? please can someone tell as in how often!

in regards to the seed mix, i've seen this company and heard it sells very good quality parakeet mix which should be good for a parrotlet, please could you tell me if anyone has tried it or if it seems good please?
this is the link http://www.gardenbirds.net/cage-aviary-bir.../prod_2465.html (http://www.gardenbirds.net/cage-aviary-birds/-bird-foods/-parakeet-mixtures/avian-specific-as60-small-parakeet-mixture/prod_2465.html)

i plan to give it, this seed mix (above link), cuttlefish and block (for beck trimming) as for vitamins and minerals, with a variety of fruit, veg and obviously water,
will that be a good diet for a parrotlet?

lol hope thats not to many questions, thank saj! :)

SORRY FOR POSTINGS IT TWICE, JUST REALISED I DID!!!!!!!

I buy a cockatiel mixture for my parrotlet as far as seed. The millet comes in sprays and I cut about a 4 inch piece and offer a couple times a week at the most for her. Each day, I ensure to offer foods rich in Vitamin A (brocolli, sweet potato, kale, carrots, cantelope, etc). I offer fruit a few times a week (strawberries-organic, banana, apples, grapes). Also, a cook a batch of brown rice and a mixture of beans along with a small mixture of Beak Appetit. Wheat pasta is also a favorite mixed with mixed veggies. I sprinkle it with either flax, sesame seeds or some wheat germ. Another favorite is mini corn muffins which have veggies and sweet potato baby food mixed in. Hope this helps...

ok so when you say you cut it into a 4 inch piece, how do you offer that to the parrotlet? by hand or put it in the cage? just in the feeding bowl or you use a holder of some sort?

there are clips that you can buy to hold the millet sprig and hang it in the cage or you can place it in a food bowl or even weave it in the bars of the cage. I sometimes bring Kiwi in my office and will put down a paper towel or small hand towel and put the millet on it for her to munch on. I normally use the paper towel since I can clean up easily by throwing everything away.

I have a ladder that runs bet. two perches on the lower area of the cage. I put the large and small millet there every day. Chipper doesn't eat it every day, just when she feels like it. She gets Topper seed and Goldenfeast mix everyday, but rarely eats it.

I give her pellets, Topper seed and Goldenfeast along with veggies in her corn muffin birdie bread. Also, the Teil Cookies I make have her seed, oats, pellets.

She loves Beak Apetit, and to that I add Goldenfeast, whole wheat pasta and more veggies. She loves it all together.

She loves the dried sweet potatos, I leave them chewy.

She gets celery, apple, pear, strawberries, broc. carrot, and a wide variety of food. I think that is the best. Offer many things. Some days, she will just eat a few things, other days, she eats from everything.

She gets a buffet twice a day of all of the above. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/Sally11/breadPICT0567600.jpg
