I've heard that some p'let owners use plastic slinkies as toys.
Does anyone here do that? If so, can you show me some pics so I can see how to do it?
Thanks

I still dont understand how to upload photos, but I just hang one end of the slinky on the roof of the cage, and it cascades down to the floor. He uses it as his vertical perch to move up and down the cage, and sometimes I think he just sits on it to bounce a bit.

This is the way I use mine in Angelina's cage. It can be stretched out farther than this, but I have it set up between a little platform on one end and a perch on the other. She runs through it like a tunnel, and also over the top of it.
I sort of spread it out and "drop" it through the cage bars. You can also drop it through the cage bars on top. It's lots of fun for them, and just Parrotlet size!

That's cool! I wondered about using a slinky horizontally. It is attached with zip ties?

No zip ties. When I spread it out and "drop" it through the bars, the slinky is a spiral, so the bars of the cage hold the slinky in place. It's hard to describe! Try it without spreading it out too far and you'll see what I mean -- just drop it through the bars -- instant P'let tunnel!

I use to have one for Zeus. I just let it drop through the top of the cage. He would sleep in it. You can see him in it in my avatar.

I have one I dropped in the side of Zacks cage, he sits on the end of the tunnel , but has not went through it yet. Noel will have nothing to do with it. When Zack was very little, he was afraid of it, took it out, and just recently put it back. I use a zip tie on each end.

My parrotlet loves his slinky! He didn't like it when it was horizontal, but as soon as i hung it vertical he was all over it! He loves to sit on it and boing up and down, climb down the inside, and even uses it as kind of an elevator to get to the bottom of his cage! I attach mine by swirling the top 4 or 5 rings through the top of the cage and securing them with binder clips.

Here is picture of my linnies Boo and Comet in their slinky. I just put it through the top of the cage. They love it. Guess I haven't given one to my parrotlet and I should since his name is Slinky. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd429/twokidzmom/Birds030.jpg

Great idea.. I will have to try that Technique out.. Harry came with a slinky (he had toys etc included) but I drape it over a branch and he is not interested in the slinky he used to sleep in as a baby.

That's an awesome idea! I'm going to buy Lola one of these next time I'm at the store for sure!
I still think it's so much fun to see what random items people use in place of bird toys and cage accessories. Such a creative bunch we have :')

I just bought one for Cricket yesterday! She has so many toys in her cage right now, thought (and so many perches!), I am going to add it in when I swap some toys around.

Hi,
I would love to get the slinky for my pair, but I can't find them in the stores Ive checked so far. The stores carry the metal ones, but I can't find the ones out of plastic. Can you all tell me what stores carrry the plastic ones.

I found mine in a Dollar Tree :D but I think I have also seen some in places like CVS in toy section and other dollar stores.

I bought mine at Wal-Mart. I wasn't even looking, but there was a slinky display at the edge of the toy section as I was heading somewhere else!

Hey, I just wanted to ask--is it okay to use a metal slinky, or is a plastic one better? Could someone explain this to me?

You don't want to use metal because of the potential for them to chew on the metal... there may be zinc or lead in them and both are toxic to birds.

You just take the plastic slinky and let it drop through the cage bars on the top of the cage, it will hang down and allow the birds to play inside it. Just watch out for which way the bars are going. Put the slinky so it will hang on the bars.
